The woman who accidentally fell into a shopping mall fountain while texting on her mobile phone has spoken about the incident for the first time - and says she is suing.
CCTV footage of Cathy Marrero failing to notice that she was walking straight into a pool of water became a YouTube hit after being watched by 1.5million people.
But the 49-year-old, revealing her identity for the first time, says she doesn't find the video very funny and plans to take the mall in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania to court after accusing staff of laughing instead of helping her out of the water.
Speaking of the moment she unwittingly took the plunge, she said: ‘I saw the water coming at me, I could see the pennies and nickels at the bottom of the fountain and then I was in it.'
Security surveillance showed Ms Marrero walking in a straight line while texting on her phone, oblivious to what was around her - or directly in front of her.
She then fell into the cold water before struggling to get out and making a swift exit.
The video was posted with commentary by what is believed to be laughing mall employees who watched the video over and over.
Mrs Marrero said she was left mortified by the incident.
‘My issue is I don't think security was professional because they didn't send anyone to check on me until 20 minutes later and I had already left,’ she told the Reading Eagle.
‘Instead of laughing, they should have said, 'Is she OK?' and been down there right away to check on me.'
She added: 'I'm just like dumbfounded. And all I kept saying was: ‘I fell. I fell. I fell in the fountain. I fell in the fountain.’
After watching the woman's embarrassing fall, a worker is captured saying: 'And then she just awkwardly walks away'.

I have to admit, I'm one of the 1.5 million people who watched the video and laughed. This woman should stop whining and start looking into how she can get on the "web redemption" segment of Tosh.0.

Serves her right. And anyone else who yaps/texts on their cell phones and not pay attention to what is going on around them.
Imagine if she was doing this while she was driving? probably would have driven into a lake (or worse).

That was her second mistake.

She obviously also missed the signs reading "No Lifeguard On Duty."
Security surveillance showed Ms Marrero walking in a straight line while texting on her phone, oblivious to what was around her - or directly in front of her.
That's pretty much the beginning and end of it. Summary judgment granted.

The employees watching the video -- obviously sometime significantly later in the day -- noted that "Pedro from Housekeeping asked her, 'Are you okay?' and she said, 'I'm just a little wet.'" And, if she had already taken it upon herself to leave, without asking for help, how are security personnel supposed to find her, or even know to look for her?
This whole incident is one of life's little lessons that you really need to pay attention to what's going on around you. Modern civilization has clearly been a protective cushion for this woman; had she been born in the Pleistocene, she would have been saber-toothed cat food long before age 49.

And watch the ABC newscast. Seems this woman has already been convicted of identity theft (using someone elses credit card or something like that) and that she is no longer sueing the mall.

I feel bad about the security guard getting fired ...he could have left out the audio and gotten away with it.

Most mall security guards do find a better gig as "mall security guard" is not that great of a gig anyway.

He probably got fired ONLY because he "published" secure video footage (aka not his). There is probably some kind of "disclosure" clause in his contract that he violated.

As I have always said about Pennsylvania, its the slow state. How does it seem to attract people who should have been saber-tooth food?
