And she is right; she won’t be fired because some people have more rights than other people.

We need a lot more of this kind of honesty:

After calling Barbara Bush an ‘amazing racist,’ a professor taunts critics: ‘I will never be fired’

But a creative writing professor at California State University at Fresno had a blunt message for those offering up fond remembrances:

“Barbara Bush was a generous and smart and amazing racist who, along with her husband, raised a war criminal,” Randa Jarrar wrote Tuesday night on Twitter, according to the Fresno Bee.
In another tweet, the outspoken professor wrote: “I’m happy the witch is dead. can’t wait for the rest of her family to fall to their demise the way 1.5 million iraqis have. byyyeeeeeee.”

We on the left (and I don't know if Prof Jarrar counts) have our share of idiots. If you, lib, acknowledge (say) Timothy McVeigh (23 years ago today) as being of the right and therefore in some way representative of your views, I'll claim Prof Jarrar as one of ours. I don't think that B Bush was as sweet as she is made out to be, but de mortuis nil nisi bonum and all that.

I went on Amazon to see what Prof Jarrar has written. One book (A Map of Home) had accumulated a few reviews over the last couple of years which veered between 5 star and one star. But it was interesting to see a huge number of reviews (c. 20+: I didn't count), all dated April 18, all giving a one sentence 'This book is crap' review (I am paraphrasing) and one star. It's amazing how all these people bought the book and read it and had the time to post a review all on the same day that she hit the headlines. I refuse to believe that these reviews were politically motivated, by people who had not bought the book and had not read it.

Having said all that, I think Prof Jarrar's comments, if they were reported correctly, were dumb, unnecessary and ill-informed.

She does seem to be a jerk, but IMHO she has a right to say what she wants without fear of losing her job. Then again, FWIW, free speech is not a priority of the rank and file of the left or right, just some members of both sides.

I put her into the category of "I can keep a job, write books and spout off like a total arse as long as I can keep up to date on trendy, now, rubbish that everyone thinks is really great because it's an industry and, ya know, we make money at it so whatever"

Toss in "gender identity", "race consciousness", "feminine/LGBTQPDAR2D2" and other suitable buzz words; half-bake at 180 for 15 minutes; enjoy

Yes, people who work for public institutions have more "rights" than people who work for private businesses, because unlike private employers, governmental agencies cannot infringe the free speech rights of their employees. It's that Constitution thing, so pesky when you want to shut up someone whose political views you don't like. Also, she has tenure, which by definition gives her more "rights" in job security than non-tenured faculty.

Oh, did you mean something else?

And while you're at it, legalities aside, please let me know why you think she deserves to be fired for making those statements.

I said nothing about wanting her fired I said she would not be fired, but a non liberal would run a great risk of being fired for promoting hatred. There is a different standard. Why do you think there are so few academics willing to call Afrocentric beliefs what they really are, a bunch of crap.

you have he sta5istics on that; I have no doubt that there are situations where people call for the firing of academics for expressing unpopular views, but how many are actually fired? Not many that I have heard of.

She had her less than savory moments but her extreme bigotry towards the poor is a central dogma in her party:

"Former first lady Barbara Bush said that Hurricane Katrina refugees being housed in the Houston Astrodome were "underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them." "

This was her response to seeing people who lost their homes, their jobs, their neighborhoods, and all of their belongings living in a refugee camp in the Astrodome.

Chuck Grassley expressed the same sentiment recently and just as baldly.

Oh bullshit. The "hate Hillary " machine was running full speed years before she even had a record as an elected official to earn any dislike. And all of those were promoted for their hatred. The "hate Immigrants" dogma (which is based on the lie that they are flooding into the US) is the surest way to success in the Republican party. And we now have the "hate the school shootings survivors" being ginned up.

Hatred is much more a characteristic of the right than the left. Thanks for admitting it.

So if that were true rube, that would make you what?

The exception that proves the rule?
