The bad guy killed at least three people. But somebody just reached out and removed the rifle from his control. Please note he was not wearing body armor (or anything else) when he fled.

Hero customer ambushes Waffle House killer and wrests away his assault-style rifle

Image

(CNN)As soon as he heard the gunshots, James Shaw Jr. bolted and hid in a restroom. But he didn't lose sight of the gunman.

And the moment the shooter paused, police said, Shaw decided to ambush him.

That heroic act by a customer saved countless lives at a Nashville-area Waffle House, where a seminude gunman killed four people early Sunday morning.

"He saw the gunman looking at his rifle. At that point, the shots had stopped," Metro Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron said.

"So he decided to rush the gunman, actually wrestled that assault rifle away, tossed it over the counter. At that point, the gunman then fled."

Shaw suffered minor injuries in the melee, including cuts and an injured elbow.

"He is the hero here, and no doubt he saved many lives by wrestling the gun away and then tossing it over the counter and prompting the (gun)man to leave," the police spokesman said.

I saw Mr. Shaw speak at the police press conference a little while ago...

A very appealing young man...

It was truly refreshing to see such a display of genuine, honest humility; especially with so much of the faux variety about...

The dirt bag shooter reportedly may have two more weapons with him...Hopefully he'll find some isolated location and off himself...

In fact if he could drive himself to the county dump, climb up on a pile of garbage and blow his brains out there, he could save the state not just the cost of trying, feeding and housing him, but burial costs as well...

Reinking was last described as being naked and has not yet been found.

You'd think he would have been captured by now.

Very odd.

Reinking was last described as being naked and has not yet been found.
Apparently after that bit of weirdness, he got some more clothes:
Authorities said the gunman shed his jacket nearby and police found two AR-15 magazines loaded with bullets in the pockets. He was seen walking, naked, on a road, officials said, but later was seen in pants after apparently returning to his apartment. Two of the weapons returned to Reinking’s father, a long gun and a handgun, remain missing after police searched Reinking’s apartment.

The fact that he hasn't been found yet suggests he's probably not moving around. (In which case he would likely have been spotted by now).

When you look at his history, (and his behavior after the shooting today) this sure doesn't seem like the kind of guy to have constructed a well thought out get away plan, or to have thought to set up some sort of well-stocked hide out where he could go to ground for a protracted period of time.

If you take all of this into consideration, it seems to me that the two most likely explanations for why he hasn't been found is that either he did what I suggested earlier that he might do, (go off to an isolated location and kill himself; a place remote enough that they haven't found his body yet.) or that he's done a home invasion, where he's either killed whoever he encountered or he's holding them hostage so they can't contact anyone for help.

He might also have stolen a car and killed the owner (or taken them hostage) so that it hasn't been reported stolen. If he did that before they had him ID'd and road check points in the area went up, he might get a considerable distance from the crime area.

Well, we finally have one that qualifies as a hero. But will he be arrested for being a vigilante? He did take the law into his own hands, didn’t he? He did commit assault, didn’t he? I am just trying to think like a liberal.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

Not really the outcome I was hoping for...

Oh look, another white mass shooter has been taken into police custody alive.

I guess the cops had no reason to worry that he was armed, and didn't mistake a cell phone for a gun this time.

Just lucky, I guess.

Can someone tell me which well-regulated militia he and/or his father belong to?

I wonder what the motive for this carnage was?

I’ve been to that Wafflehouse; a former law school classmate lives not too far away.

Yay for the hero!

I can't help but think that this shitstain's father is the real villain here. His father could have done something that would have saved four lives (not to mention keeping his crazy son from spending the rest of his life in prison) and instead did the exact opposite. I hope he is prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and reminded often of his guilt.

I was thinking the same thing--the guy had mental problems and had his guns taken away; the police gave them to his father with the express agreement that they not be given to his son; the father then gives them to the son because he said He (not sure if it was the father or son) as going to be moving out of state (not that it makes a difference who was supposed to be leaving). I hope there is something the father can be prosecuted for.

If he has any assets, he won't for long. This is the easiest civil liability case I've seen in a long time. But my guess is he doesn't have anything worth taking.

ETA: I should have read the article first:
At the end of the Reinking family’s winding, gravel driveway, a Tazewell sheriff’s deputy sat in a marked squad car. The stately home was illuminated by some exterior accent lighting and some lights indoors were on.

A relative of Reinking’s said the family has no comment.

A neighbor described the Reinking family as the “best neighbors he’s ever had.” They own and operate a crane rental business serving much of central Illinois, including nearby Tremont, Peoria, Bloomington, Pekin.
So a stately home and a crane business. Which means likely homeowners insurance plus an umbrella policy, and property assets that can be attached, depending on how the crane company is owned. Maybe a coupla few million recoverable for the dead and injured. Not nearly enough, but something.
GAH!

The family seems to be well off, not like you might expect. Here's a fairly extensive overview.
