The White House physician, Ronny L. Jackson, has withdrawn his nomination to head the VA. The wikipedia entry for this guy notes he treated a little girl for dog bite by one of the Obama family dogs. I believe those dogs were Portuguese Water Spaniels. Every breed has its own reputation for good and bad points. So I have a question about a couple of other White House dogs: 'Scotties', Scottish Terriers. FDR had one, Brush 43 had one. Terriers as a group, and Scotties in particular, have a general rep as not particularly friendly with strangers, and fierce fighters

Did the scottie of FDR or Bush 43 bite anybody?

The Scottie I just saw in the park was nice fella, very well mannered. Don't be hating on terriers, though Welsh terriers are another subject . . .

I recall reading in an FDR biography that his dog, Fala, had a good disposition and often accompanied him on trips, meeting with many foreign leaders. I never heard of him biting anyone, but then this was a different time where even FDR's paralysis could be pretty much hidden from the public, so who knows?

Not hating on terriers at all. My first dog as a kid was a scottie. Right now, I wish I could take care of an Airdale, the king of terriers.
And I suspect I am Welsh, in my ethnic background.

Should have put a smiley there. My most spirited, fun dog was a Welsh terrier. Always thought I would like Airedales but there are a couple in my neighborhood who are aggressive and unpleasant. I think that reflects the adage that any type of dog can be a terrific companion or a terror depending on their people.

Speaking of Scottie's, the one I saw this morning was an escapee; I called the number on his tag and left a message where he could be found and hung out in the vicinity for 10 minutes waiting for a call back. Dog was in a park and doing fine, ignoring me, so I left with my dog. Got a message back a couple of hours later (as I was heading back to the park to check on him) from a woman with a heavy Scottish accent saying they collected their Scottie -- was not expecting that voice but was glad he made it home safely.

My next dog will be a Yorkie, I think - my gram had a silky when I was a kid, super sweet disposition and perfect size to cuddle but not hog the bed.

BSG--watch it with little dogs--they are small, but many find a way to stretch out and still hog a lot of the bed. My dog, a 10 lb coton, usually sleeps with my daughters and can take up a lot of space (sometimes they banish her to the floor for it.

I dislike extra-point dogs

I don't have a lot of experience with Scotties, but I have known several Westies and they were all delightful, friendly and happy doggies.

The only dog trivia questions are "who's a good boy" and "treats" ! Now you're going to complain that "treats" is not a question but to a dog it is the only question.
