Whiter than white

Post by Gob »

A senior Metropolitan Police officer who used the phrase "whiter than white" faces losing his job for alleged racism and gross misconduct.

The detective superintendent is said to have made the comment in a briefing to colleagues during which he discussed the need to be faultless and above reproach in carrying out inquiries.

But a complaint was made about his choice of words which was passed to the police watchdog for investigation, according to the Evening Standard.

The highly respected officer has been placed on restricted duties while the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigates and has reportedly been warned the inquiry may take up to 12 months to complete.

He is attached to Scotland Yard’s anti corruption squad, the Directorate of Professional Standards.

Fellow officers leapt to his defence and are understood to be upset that a colleague’s career hangs in the balance for using a common phrase widely used without controversy.

They suggested that the probe was proof that the police misconduct process had got out of hand.

One told the Standard: "There was no bad intent in this comment, it may have been a poor use of language but this is not what the misconduct process is for.

“This is not corruption, this is not serious wrongdoing. There should be informal ways of dealing with this, particularly at a time when we are so short of experienced officers."

An inquiry concerning an officer's use of the phrase "pale, stale and male" in another force is also said to be in progress.

A spokesman for the IOPC said: “I can confirm that as part of Operation Embley into allegations of serious corruption and malpractice within the Directorate of Professional Standards a notice of investigation has been served on an officer informing them we are investigating the alleged use of language deliberately intended to offend and that had racist undertones.

“A notice is issued to inform an officer at the earliest opportunity following an allegation and to safeguard their interests. It in no way indicates that misconduct proceedings will take place.”

Remember Strop:

The standard is that if even one person claims that some word or phrase offends them, and even if their being offended is the result purely of their own ignorance, then the use of that word or phrase must be labeled "offensive" and avoided by anyone who does not wish to be considered a "racist"...

Ignorant people have no obligation to to become educated on the topics about which they are ignorant; (and people who aren't ignorant about the topic would be completely out of line to try to educate them; doing so would be yet another act of "racism") no, the rest of us have an obligation to coddle them and cater to their ignorance, and grant the views they have formed based on their ignorance equal standing and respect with views based on knowledge of the facts...

Views based on ignorance should be validated; not challenged...

Blacker than black

Post by RayThom »

In the past I have used the term "shiny black" to describe a person of color and, more often that usual, a foreign national. Is this merely descriptive or am I, too, a racist?

Well it appears that Britain is surely a liberal country. It works like this, you are racist if a person of color or a liberal says you are a racist, get used to it . What you believe or don’t believe is not relevant. You have no power even when you are right if you are a honkey. “Whiter than white” is probably a term that has been used in Britain long before the country was multicultural without any racist connotation. But now it is racist, how the world changes. Even if this cop doesn’t lose his he will always be branded as a racist.

Gob, surely most of the people of Britain don’t agree with this kind of stuff so why do they put up with it. Is it illegal to report on situations like this?

What race do you need to be to be offended by that phrase?
