It's never a good sign...
It's never a good sign...
...when the first snow falls before November. Not that it's going to stick, or anything, but just seeing it in the air is enough to want to put on my bunny slippers and pull the covers over my head and not emerge until April.

For what it’s worth, the weather prognosticators are predicting a milder winter than usual.

I lived for 24 years in Buffalo, about 2 hours down the QEW from Scooter. This time of year I do not miss it at all.

I hope so. I'll take 50+ degrees until December and spring thaw the first week of March, please.BoSoxGal wrote:For what it’s worth, the weather prognosticators are predicting a milder winter than usual.

I'd like some snow — maybe six to eight inches; but no more than a foot, max — for Christmas and New Year's if for no other purpose than sentimental reasons and to put one in the proper holiday mood, but so far as I'm concerned it can all melt and run down the sewers by MLK Day.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
Re: It's never a good sign...
The problem with that - which is what we’ve had here in Massachusetts the past two years, punctuated by a handful of severe nor’easters - is that by late April we are ankle deep in tick Armageddon and it becomes nearly impossible to enjoy nature in the best season of the year.Jarlaxle wrote:I hope so. A good long deep freeze is how things work best.

I'm still waiting for the first snow. It hasn't snowed here since 1976 for just a little while one day...

Demographically, I see that you most likely have a white Xmas almost every year.Joe Guy wrote:I'm still waiting for the first snow. It hasn't snowed here since 1976 for just a little while one day...

The record for local earliest measurable snowfall was set here on Oct 14th. The trees immediately began to change colors. We're well into fall, with many naked trees, and more of various colors.
Don't look now, but here comes this year's end of daylight saving time. I wish they'd leave DST on all year, but I understand that those north of me would see sunsets at 4:30, maybe earlier, come December.

In Montana even with DST the sun was set by 4:30 during the worst of winter. Really high suicide rate up there, too. Lots of guns and lots of dark.

It was a balmy 80 degrees here in Pleasant Hill, CA.
We do need the rain though.
