Thousand Oaks Mass Shooting

Nobody started a thread about this, so I'm going to.
Of course my heart hurt when I dialed into Morning Joe this AM and heard about yet another mass shooting, not even two weeks from the last one. They spent some time talking about it on Morning Joe, and again a bit later in the morning on MSNBC when they broke away from politics to cover updates from law enforcement processing the scene.
Then a brief conversation among panel members this afternoon talking politics, wherein they discussed how their kids are routinely experiencing active shooter drills in grade school because that's our world now.
This evening it has barely been mentioned beyond a brief bit on Chris Mathews's Hardball, when he asked a Congresswoman if there would be gun control legislation coming out of the new Congress after January - she said yes out of the House, but who knows what the Senate will do. I guess we'll see if the Democrats actually do anything . . .
I guess this incident isn't getting the coverage because it's not so clearly linked to politics like the synagogue massacre was . . . but this one was carried out by a former Marine, a veteran with 5 years service and at least one deployment to the War on Terror and known to neighbors to have PTSD. I'd say there is a political angle - isn't there? We have 20+ veterans committing suicide every day - recently this happened to a friend I care about very much, he lost a beloved son - and what the fuck are we really doing about it? It's been going on for years! I recall first hearing about it on NPR in 2007 when I was living here in Massachusetts working at legal aid, and the rate has not gone down since then.
To make things more awful than the already unimaginable, some 50+/- people in the targeted venue last night were survivors of the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Fest massacre, who apparently meet at this Thousand Oaks country music bar venue regularly as a place of healing! And some of them were killed!! Seriously how fucking horrific is THAT?!
I'm sick about how run of the mill these massacres are becoming. I'm also sick of how we basically never talk about the quickly approaching two-decade-long wars in the ME, and the hundreds of thousands of veterans and their extended families who are being wrecked by the aftermath.
How callous have we become, or were we always like this??
