Oh boy, a gun thread!
Look, there is no other way to say this -- and I have now been saying it for more than six years: The root problem is 1) too many guns 2) too readily available 3) to too many people. All of those factors have to be addressed in a serious way for there to be any effective result; nibbling around the edges with bump-stock bans, magazine capacity limits, waiting periods, background checks, etc. does nothing to get to the core of the problem. I have yet to see any "serious way" to address these fundamental factors that doesn't run afoul of the Second Amendment, as currently interpreted by the Supreme Court. This nation can choose to have a real policy discussion seeking real solutions to the problem -- or not -- but first it has to acknowledge what both the problem and the obstacle to its resolution really are.
