A tiger at the Bronx Zoo in New York City has tested positive for the new coronavirus, in what is believed to be the first known infection in an animal in the U.S. or a tiger anywhere, federal officials and the zoo said Sunday."
Plus six other lions and tigers.

I guess we will just have to kill all the cats now. A shame but at least its not dogs or some valuable animal. We'll just have to get going and get it done, right RayThom?

I can't help but wonder...who was the poor sonofabitch who had to stick a Q-tip up their noses to test them? :o

If a bear gets infected, that will be an "oh my" moment. But sad if true.

The virus sheds through feces, too - so they might’ve tested stool first. But in any case I’m sure any such work with big cats involves sedation, so no worries.

Reminds me of my favorite scene from the movie Manhunter.

I should be safe if I just stay 6 feet away from tigers. That's been my plan all along and I'm sticking to it.

But is that the tiger's plan, eh? Always carry a tiger ventilator

You have previous experience with this on house cats if I'm not mistaken.

Don't blame the cat .... he learned it from the dog.

To be clear, the big cats got it from the humans. Not the other way around.

So let’s just kill the humans and let the cats take over the world.

:fu The fact that a lot of people like you want to exterminate all the cats but no cats want to exterminate all the humans makes cats the morally superior species, IMO.

Oh, you're far to modest rube...

If we need a "Cat Extermination Czar" we don't need to hire Aussies; with your admitted experience and love for the task, you'd be an excellent choice...

I am pretty sure that were domestic kitties to suddenly have a significant growth spurt that there would be some issues regarding survival for crazy cat ladies. Just because they aren't able to kill us does not mean they don't want to.

Have you ever been around big cats? We visit and support the Exotic Feline Rescue Center. We make trips to visit the big kitties when the mood strikes. In fact our life insurance is directed to them in the event of our demise. When visiting one is very up close to the kitties, tigers, lions, panthers bobcats, they have a variety which were removed from less than stellar operations or private idiots who think owning a large carnivore is a great idea. Anyway, they had a tiger named Otis Lee, who has now long passed on to the great sandbox in the sky. Otis was very playful. He loved to ambush anyone walking by his generous enclosure. He would take a giant leap and hit the fence next to any unwitting visitor and subsequently scaring the living shit out of them. I fell victim to Otis' nonsense a couple of times. Now Otis, like all the cats at the EFRC was well fed and well taken care of. I don't think his intent was to kill anyone but were it not for the very strong fence I have no doubt full body contact would be made and probably a fragile by comparison human would be seriously injured in the tackle. The follow up mauling would likely quickly snuff out whatever life was left. All in a day's fun for Otis. I feel we would be in similar danger were our domestic kitties that large.

Kitties are also really hard on the environment. If you love your killing machine, keep it inside.

And he could get a private office.

With wire mesh over the windows and the door locked from outside, like the rest of the people in the high-security nut farm.

That reminds me of the list of top 10 bad jobs. Top of the list was the rectal thermometer tester.
