"The Western Fleet of Indonesia's Navy is holding a series of major military exercises in the Java Sea and the South China Sea amid rising tensions between China and the United States in the international waterway.

In what could be seen as sending a clear message to China, the series of drills began July 18 and will conclude Sunday, July 26. The drills will include an amphibious exercise on a beach at Singkep, part of the Riau archipelago where the two seas meet.

On the agenda are sea battle simulations and 2,000 military personnel with 26 warships, 19 aircraft, 18 marine combat vehicles, Naval Fleet Command I spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Fajar Rohadi said.

"At the fleet level, this is the most complex exercise because there will be more exercises involving all naval units," Rohadi said.

He added the Java Sea drills included damage control activities, communications, simulations of anti-submarine and surface warfare in comments made Wednesday to BenarNews, a five-language online news service affiliated with Radio Free Asia (RFA)."

Lila and I took the bubble living with a dissident (with a tenor around a trombone, the lowly toothpick, a few ballerinas, and an irreconcilable maestro) to arrive at a state of intimacy where we can barely wisely learn a hard lesson from our bonbon. He called her Jean-Pierre (or was it Lila?). He called her Mitzi (or was it Harpo Marx?).

"Apple manufacturer Foxconn has started building iPhone 11 units in a facility near Chennai in India, TechCrunch reported, the first time Apple has made one of its top-tier phones in that country.

Apple has manufactured lower-priced iPhone models in India since 2017, and reportedly has been considering moving production of its more premium models there for some time.

India was the second-biggest smartphone market in the world in 2019, ahead of the US and second only to China. According to TechCrunch, Apple plans to scale up production in India, which would in turn reduce how much it depends on China, where most of its iPhones are currently made. And while Apple tops the premium smartphone market in India, it has only about a 1 percent share of the total smartphone market there. The iPhone’s price puts it out of reach for many consumers in India.

By selling locally-made devices in India, Apple would be able to avoid a 20 percent import duty that India imposes on foreign-made electronics. It’s not clear whether the devices are being manufactured for sale within India only, or for the broader worldwide market.

Apple did not immediately return a request for comment Saturday."

"Researchers have found privacy and security vulnerabilities in the popular Go 4 app developed by the Chinese drone manufacturer DJI.
The research

The security firms Synacktiv and Grimm were hired to reverse-engineer and analyze DJI software and they discovered that the Go 4 app has violated Google’s Play Store policies and may have been used to secretly collect private user data.

The research found features hidden in the software that sent information that has nothing to do with flying drones back to Chinese servers, according to a report by Ars Technica.

The DJI Go 4 app has been downloaded more than 1 million times from the Google Play Store.

According to the research, these are some of the vulnerabilities found in DJI’s software:

The ability to download and install any application of the developers’ choice through either a self-update feature or a dedicated installer in a software development kit provided by China-based social media platform Weibo. Both features could download code outside of Play, in violation of Google’s terms.

A recently removed component that collected a wealth of phone data including IMEI, IMSI, carrier name, SIM serial Number, SD card information, OS language, kernel version, screen size and brightness, wireless network name, address and MAC, and Bluetooth addresses. These details and more were sent to MobTech, maker of a software developer kit used until the most recent release of the app.

Automatic restarts whenever a user swiped the app to close it. The restarts cause the app to run in the background and continue to make network requests.

Advanced obfuscation techniques that make third-party analysis of the app time-consuming.

In 2017, the U.S. Military banned the use of DJI drones following the classified findings in a study by the Army Research Lab at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland."
