Dipshits ruin another child's life (maybe)

Post by MajGenl.Meade »

Elon Musk and girlfriend Grimes are new parents to a baby boy named X Æ A-12.

While the baby name announcement sent Twitter into a frenzy as fans tried to figure out if Musk was joking and, if not, how the baby's name is pronounced, Grimes stepped in to explain how they came up with the truly unique moniker in the first place.

Seemingly confirming that their child's name is in fact X Æ A-12, Grimes said each portion and character had a special significance.

According to Grimes, X stands for "the unknown variable," while Æ is "my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence), while the A-12 refers to an aircraft which is the "precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent."

I think she probably means the SR-71 Blackbird.

And yes to the dipshits designation.

(Edited to add: and yes, I checked the tweet and the mistake (SR-17) is hers and not that of the reporter above. So it's possible she misspelled the poor kid's name.)

Maybe the kid will leak when it's grounded.

I anticipate a family court action, possibly involving the appointment of a guardian ad litem, with this kid desperately seeking a name change well before its age of majority.

Gotta love the "elven" claim; as I recall, the conjoin ed A and E is a Danish and Norwegian letter, nothing to do with elves.

Is that anti-onomatopoeia?

I'd like this lady Grimey to explain how good the SR71 (or the A12) are in "battle"? Way up dere spy planes are terrific in er...what non-combat combat was that?

Just think - one of those is the favorite plane of Grimble and Elon and they can't name it or describe its function correctly. I'm thinking each was bound and determined to find a name worse than their partner's.

I know Musk as having an odd sense of humor. I think this may all be a twitter joke and the boy's name is still TBA.

On the other hand, the name "Elven" would probably be non-traumatic to the world's newest rich person.

I don't think that they should call him TBA. The other kids will still make fun of him.

California reportedly only allows the 26 letters of the alphabet to be used in legal names. So I’m pretty sure the birth certificate says something else and this is all a joke.

I looked at mom’s twitter feed (she goes by Grimes but has a lovely real name). She is one odd lady.

Lockheed A-12
The Lockheed A-12 was a reconnaissance aircraft built for the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) by Lockheed's Skunk Works, based on the designs of Clarence "Kelly" Johnson. The aircraft was designated A-12, the 12th in a series of internal design efforts for "Archangel", the aircraft's internal code name. In 1959 it was selected over Convair's FISH and Kingfish designs as the winner of Project GUSTO, and was developed and operated under Project Oxcart.

The A-12 was produced from 1962 to 1964 and flew from 1963 to 1968. It was the precursor to the twin-seat U.S. Air Force YF-12 prototype interceptor, M-21 launcher for the D-21 drone, and the SR-71 Blackbird, a slightly longer variant able to carry a heavier fuel and camera load. The A-12 began flying missions in 1967 and its final mission was in May 1968; the program and aircraft were retired in June. The program was officially revealed in the mid-1990s.

I don't know if it's been officially changed, but Zowie goes by the name Dduncan Jones (at least he did when he made the movie Moon (nothing to do with Zappa)) .

gen'l Mead sir, I know the SR71 is a little after your time in service but I can guarantee you, like the SR71, all kids the age of the topic under discussion in this thread, leak when grounded, both fluids and solids. (Not to sure about the Blackbird, did it leak solids before the skin warmed up?)

Good news for the poor kid:
Elon Musk and Grimes might have told fans their newborn baby boy is called X Æ A-12 Musk, but it seems the unusual moniker could fall foul of Californian state rules.

Names can only use the 26 alphabetical characters of the English language, according to the state constitution.
Not only does this spell trouble for X Æ A-12 Musk, it also means bans on diacritical marks, such as accents in names like "José."

That's his name..."Zowie" is his middle name. (Duncan Zowie Haywood Jones)

If I am reading that correctly, "O'Connor" is not a legal name in California.

I’m sure that’s not true. As a point of distinction, the apostrophe in certain Celtic names is not an accent mark, but is used to indicate the patronymic nature of the surname - O’Connor means essentially ‘son of Connor’ and the O’ is a shortened (or bastardized) version of what used to be a lengthy patronymic naming system in Gaelic language.

I’ll try to find the actual California law to post for you; I suspect is must address the difference between accent marks in Christian (given) names and patronymic apostrophes in certain surnames.

Here’s an article that discusses how apostrophes are acceptable in California’s naming law but diacritical marks are not.
