The hidden links between mental disorders

Did you immediately think Trump was the connection? He isn't. What does that say about your state of mind?
Doc and I share information back and forth during our daily meandering through the internet. She found the article.
We both believe that, to put it kindly, many psychiatrist and psychologists are attracted to the field to understand themselves.
I'll add to the info that studies have shown correlations between mental issues and the gut biome.
"In 2018, psychiatrist Oleguer Plana-Ripoll was wrestling with a puzzling fact about mental disorders. He knew that many individuals have multiple conditions — anxiety and depression, say, or schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He wanted to know how common it was to have more than one diagnosis, so he got his hands on a database containing the medical details of around 5.9 million Danish citizens.
He was taken aback by what he found. Every single mental disorder predisposed the patient to every other mental disorder — no matter how distinct the symptoms1. “We knew that comorbidity was important, but we didn’t expect to find associations for all pairs,” says Plana-Ripoll, who is based at Aarhus University in Denmark."

I'd say you scored a bit of an own goal there, Darren and Doc. I could be wrong: it happened once before.

Perhaps Andy but I don't fancy their chances of success

I took a look at the original paper - not the Nature news item you linked. They used very wide categories of disorders such as substance abuse, eating disorders and mood disorders, and, as they say themselves in a paragraph about limitations of the study, only those diagnoses which were made by psychiatric clinicians and not by general practitioners. So that would bias things to the medically more extreme end. It would also - and they don't say this, at least not in so many words - reduce the number of single diagnoses where the first doctor did not see the need to refer it up to the specialists. I'm not saying it's a worthless study, but it is perhaps drawing a larger conclusion than it should.

You're correct. Doc has been treated by those types at the VA for PTSD from her time in the concentration camp. They couldn't fathom a Buddhist pov due to their Judaeo-Christian background.
I'm somewhere on the spectrum which I never realized until I read why we've had an explosion of diagnosed autism/Asperger/etc. Reading about Trump's rambling speech was an eye-opener of sorts which explains his "game".
It also adds context to Helsinki, his trips abroad, his actions in the Middle East, the moving of our embassy to Israel and his multi-focus.
While some have said he's playing four dimensional chess. That's not a bad approximation but not entirely adequate.
If you think that's adulation it isn't. It's recognition.

Did you immediately think Trump was the connection
Just because Trump obviously suffers from a whole pile of mental disorders, from malignant narcissism and psychopathology to growing dementia, why would anyone think he was some kind of "link" between them?

As you all know, I'm usually slow on the uptake, but I'm pretty sure that was LJ's intention.
We should all do that when Darren gets all pompous and wordy.

Did you know that Los Banos means The Bathrooms in Spanish? Just a bit of trivia.

It can mean that Joe, or it can mean baths--like tub or mineral baths. When I was in Spain, los servicios were used more commonly than banos, esepcially for public bathrooms; some places even called the WCs. A bit more trivia.

There is a Wikipedia piece on the
Raid on Los Baños.
Quite a feat. Doc must have been 4 or 5.

I'm not surprised. Low hanging fruit.
What's your plan, Darren -- bore her to death with all your pseudo/quasi medical and political 'facts' and then steal her credit cards and mobile phone?
... She came in through Los Banos window...

She remembers it all including the parachutists. The Japanese had already dug the trenches for the bodies.

If I survive her I get to live in the trailer until I die and then her kids get it. This has been one of the better trailer parks I've lived in. I may splurge and add skirting. That might help with the gas bill in the winter.
