It's complete bovine excrement.
HTF do those governing figure that liquor stores are essential but dentists are not? I had a dental appointment today and asked the assistant if she had heard that we would be going back to stage 1 and it would be announced tomorrow. They had all heard it and are bracing to be laid off again. I made a follow up for a couple of crowns to be done in December but may not be able to get the work done.
Second episode of government twatwafflery is that the Governor plans to send the national guard to LTC facilities to "help". It's not help if they cannot put their hands on the patient. Last time around I was off with the foot issue and missed out but understand that they were no help whatsoever.

Re: It's complete bovine excrement.
I would hazard a guess that the rationale behind keeping liquor stores open while keeping dental offices closed is that (1) at liquor stores (unlike at dentists) it's possible for everyone involved to be both masked and socially distanced, most of the time, and/or (2) keeping the liquor stores open would at least somewhat decrease the pressure to open the bars.

We discussed this eons ago at the beginning of the pandemic; closing liquor stores would flood the hospitals with seriously ill patients suffering delirium tremens, which has a much higher mortality rate than covid19 and requires critical care in the ICU in a high percentage of cases. It would be a public health catastrophe so thankfully our public health officials and politicians aren’t as stupid as too many of their Puritan constituents.

You are supposed to be ignoring me but you just can’t help yourself. The grocery stores and Walmart etc carry enough alcoholic beverages to even satisfy you. No need for specialty stores to be open. Those of us who care about our teeth would rather the dentist remain available.BoSoxGal wrote: ↑Wed Nov 04, 2020 5:01 amWe discussed this eons ago at the beginning of the pandemic; closing liquor stores would flood the hospitals with seriously ill patients suffering delirium tremens, which has a much higher mortality rate than covid19 and requires critical care in the ICU in a high percentage of cases. Imagine, if you will, a place where Walmart does not exists (most of Vermont), and grocery stores don’t sell alcohol (lots of places in New England).
We have dentists open though.
Our (Republican) Governor just issued a further series of exec orders strengthening mask requirements, limiting the size of public and private gatherings, and requiring a 930 pm shut down for liquor sales, restaurants, and all public and private gatherings. We are not closing down, but helping keep everything open, and keeping everyone safe.
I got my teeth cleaning done last month, even though it felt weird, and and I felt vulnerable. Lots of safety modifications in place. Hope you can get your work done - maybe they can push the date up?

Oh, Massachusetts used the National Guard to help do testing at our LTC facilities, since that’s where so many of our original clusters occurred. As I understand it, they sent NG medics to take swabs. No patient care involved.

Dentists and liquor stores are open here. Grocery stores also sell liquor and wine; so I imagine that specialist stores would have been pissed if Kroger was allowed to sell bourbon and they were not. Drug stores that sniff at selling tobacco are OK with selling hard liquor. It's Kentucky . . .
I don't have a problem with the dentist. These guys have been dealing with HIV for decades and I think they have a good idea of what they are doing both to protect themselves and the patients. I am getting some implants and last appointment is today!!!

Depends on the state. In some states, the ONLY place to buy alcoholic beverages of any sort are, in fact, liquor stores.TPFKA@W wrote: ↑Wed Nov 04, 2020 5:26 amYou are supposed to be ignoring me but you just can’t help yourself. NJ is one; even beer and wine are sold only in liquor stores (which may be attached to a supermarket, but are separate--the only exception I know of are the few (2 or 3) Costco warehouses that are licensed to sell liquor, beer, and wine.
But face it, liquor stores and dentists don't have to be mutually exclusive--there's no reason we can't have both. There's no reason to stop dental services anymore than medical services, but, face it, the negative reaction to a lockdown would be much more widespread if access to alcohol was limited by closing the stores.

Re: It's complete bovine excrement.
It's a false comparison. There is no reason to close any store, if people wear masks. It takes time and proximity to transmit COVID. Stores are safe mainly because shoppers are there for a limited time and only occasionally cross paths with a potential COVID carrier for a few seconds. The masks help to reduce the potential COVID zone of a carrier, making them less of a transmission risk, and making shopping even safer.
I am in favor of dentists staying open, especially with their PPE additions. But, people at the dentist have both time and proximity if their hygienist is an unwitting carrier. It is just very unlikely that is the case, and the benefits of dental health far outweighs the minimal risk.

Re: It's complete bovine excrement.
My concerns with the dentist is not just the potential exposure from the dentist and hygienist - minimal because they will be masked AND shielded - but from the potential of breathing in aerosolized virus left in the air of the dentist office from the patient before me whose exhalations were spewed all into the atmosphere of the room by the suction tool and sprayer tool and drill etc.
If the dentist’s office isn’t installing an expensive high quality filtration system or deploying UV light technology in the rooms between each patient, what protects one unmasked mouth wide open dental patient from the virus spewed out by the unmasked patient in the room only minutes before them?
That seems pretty high risk to me.

Objectively, it is not high risk; it is very low risk. To address your concern, dental visits are being spread out, so there is an extra 10-15 minutes between patients. Proof is in the pudding -- I looked and the only articles I could find stated there are no documented cases of COVID transmission at the dentist -- millions of cases world-wide, an army of tracers, and it would be very easy to trace to a dental office, but not one case. If someone feels like the risk/benefit is not there for them, they can put off going to the dentist. Others should have the option of taking care of their teeth.
Re: It's complete bovine excrement.
Fine, but other than dental emergency, I’ll follow the recent WHO recommended guidelines - especially since COVID is spiking all around me.
World Health Organization advises delaying of nonessential dental care in areas of COVID-19 community transmission

Hey smoke a doobie for me. In the typical degenerate fashion your state now has entered the slippery slope into the den of iniquity known as the gateway to hard drug use. If my sentence made no sense it wasn’t supposed to.

Hey, we just approved recreational dope in NJ, too! The Shore is gonna be lit (if it ever opens again).

I can drive right across the state line now and get me some pot and smoke it. If only there was not that pesky notion that nurses have to have clean urine and a whole card of morphine went missing so I anticipate having to donate soon.Sue U wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 3:00 pmHey, we just approved recreational dope in NJ, too! Oregon just decriminalized small amounts of "hard drugs" such as heroin, cocaine, and such.
