Spelling is important
Spelling is important
On CNN this morning, Anthony Fauci talking about vaccines - "The cavalry is coming." While on the bottom of the screen is written - "The Calvary is coming."
"If you don't have a seat at the table, you're on the menu."

Re: Spelling is important
A modern definition of Calvary is “an experience of intense suffering.”
I’d say that’s coming long before the vaccine cavalry, from what today’s news reports depict.
Maybe the tech guy had a Freudian moment?

That's why it was such a glaring error, because it conveyed precisely the opposite of what Fauci was saying.

Re: Spelling is important
Yes but Fauci’s also been saying we’re going into hell between now and the vaccine. So it ends up being mistakenly accurate, no?

It will be a cold day in Bear Delaware when the Pfizer vaccine gets here. The first report where I heard this vaccine was 90% effective also said it takes two doses three weeks apart, and must be kept at minus 80 degrees (I assume F) This afternoon I heard on NPR it needs minus 94
If the Pfizer is accepted for even "essential workers" that will be a complete logistical nightmare. Calvary indeed.
snailgate.

I was concerned when I learned all that too; apparently there are hopes that other vaccines in the works are much more easily stored and transported.
It’s still news but it’s nothing compared to what we need to hear - a drumbeat of MASKS DISTANCE HANDWASH STAY HOME.
The numbers in the hospitals now are alarming and positivity rate is skyrocketing; the next few months are going to be truly hellish unless people follow the rules and especially rethink their holiday gathering traditions.
I am not hopeful because most people are selfish idiots who can’t postpone gratification even if it saves lives.

Re: Spelling is important
I heard -80C which is equivalent to -112F. Either way pretty cold. There are plenty of places - universities, research labs - with freezers which go that low and plenty of suppliers. Probably time to buy stock in Thermo Scientific. It's not a huge problem provided that we get the infrastructure in place now and don't wait, as we did with PPE, until it's far too late. Dry ice is nominally -78C so that should do the trick and again, making dry ice is not difficult if we do not wait until the last minute.
$16 grand will get you this one.
$1400 will get you this dry ice maker - supply your own CO2.
Tricky but not insurmountable.

We’re still way behind the 8 ball on PPE production and distribution, so I’m not holding my breath.
Hopefully Joe is ready to fully implement the DPA on January 20 as necessary to meet the materials needs of the pandemic.

Actually, if it is -80, dry ice is pretty available and can be gotten pretty cheaply. Also, from what I have read, it can also be stored in a normal refrigerator, 0 degrees C, for a week before use, so it could be shipped in dry ice to most physicians offices every week.

The Johnson&Johnson vaccine can be stored at room temp and only requires a single dose.

I'll take whatever works and is proven safe.
Re: Spelling is important
We now have the national guard answering our phone, passing out PPE around the building, and teaching us all how to line our face up with the new auto temp taking device. The rectal setting is a bit awkward. We are now being tested 2 x a week. My nose has gone blind to it. Initially it burned but now it just tickles.
Re: Spelling is important
Of course, with people like Trump, the device wouldn't be able to tell the difference--neither can most of us.
One thing @W, is this some sort of device you have to stand still in front of for the temperature measurement? I was in Atlantic City a couple of months back and each casino had a scanner at every entrance that measured on the run (I saw one of the scanner's screens and it showed the temperature of all people within range of the sensor; a good way to avoid bunching up in lines. It's probably not ll that accurate, but it shoudl be enough to shwo if anyone has an elevated temperature (and those people could be scanned with the more accurate instrument).

Very similar to this except desk mounted: https://www.amazon.com/Contact-Temperat ... d_wg=sCjlw
You scan your namebadge under the thing . It has already started talking to you before it knows who you are. It directs you to line your face up with the outline then instructs you to slowly back away, then abruptly instructs you to hold still. I assume this is all part of the great democratic plot to use microwaves/infrared and turn us all into marxists. (I have not yet seen this as an actual theory, but can assume it is coming to a far right rag near you soon.)

Re: Spelling is important
Well it is a slight shift from infrared to red, so you may have a point there.

I am not going to be fooled by your Marxist tricks. It's what you want me to think. Or maybe that's what you want me to think. Nothing trickier than a Marxist lawyer.
