Hubby says no to blowtorches. What suggestions do you have for dealing with this humanely? The little shit ran over my house slipper in the main hallway. We have never had bugs or mousies before here.

6 Best Mouse Traps

If you have seen one, you likely have more. If you have a male-female pair, then you will soon have a family.

Traps are most effective if you can otherwise cut off their food supply, so securely close any garbage containers and store any food without packaging, or packaged in paper or cardboard, in closed plastic bins. Inspect any food storage or garbage areas for evidence of chewing or droppings and that will be a good place to lay traps.

I use the Victor Live Catch mouse traps, you can get a 2-pack for under 6 bucks at Home Despot.

Bait them with a little peanut butter on half a ritz cracker, works like a charm. Once caught, I take the little fuckers (still in the traps) a couple miles away to some rich folks' neighborhood and release them.

Sometimes I take them to an office complex where I know there are hawks in residence and release them there. If you let them go where there are hawks, the birds will swoop down right past you and grab them. If you do it a couple of times, you will become known to them as The Lady With The Snacks.

Bonus points if there are tenderhearted little kids around to experience the circle of life.

I agree with Guin. Now's a great time to get one or two cats.

Black ones.

But maybe, if you're lucky, it might have been a drive-by mouse just passing through and looking for shelter from the cold. Look for cute little mousey turds in your closet or other storage areas. Then act accordingly. I like the idea of catching them and letting them out in someone else's yard.

Victor snap-traps.  To hell with humane treatment ... mice are vermin.  I'd no sooner think of humanely trapping a mouse than I would of humanely trapping roaches or shooing a mosquito or a fly outdoors rather than just swatting it and being done with it.

Kill 'em dead; there's plenty more where they came from.

And as dales said, bait 'em with peanut butter, unless you can figure out what it is they are currently feeding on and sprinkle or somehow affix some of that to the bait/trigger pedal.  And they're cheap enough (usually around a buck and a half each if you buy them in 4-packs) so that if you think it's just too squicky to just dispose of your first kill and re-use the trap, you can just chuck the whole thing out and set a fresh one.

Secondly, those wild relatives of Mickey and Minnie had to get into your house somehow.  Check your home's foundation for cracks or other openings that might have allowed them entry, or as soon as you get rid on one batch of rodents, another one will move in.

I would have a snake but hubby is afeered of snakes. It would be like him wanting to keep a tarantula in the house. One must make concessions.

DECON!!! That's a painful tortuous inhumane murder method that is used by sadistic animal abusers.

I just thunk of something. If the plural of mouse is mice, what's the plural of house?

I think I need some sleep....

Don't recommend the d-Con. This is a poison bait that they eat, go off somewhere, and then die.  And it's not always going to be in a place where the corpse is easily located and removed before it starts to stink.

It’s warfarin, a blood thinner. They just have little mousey hemorrhages and pass quietly.
