Maskless man denied service at Calif. restaurant returns with gun, steals food
Feb. 4, 2021
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — A man who was refused service at a Southern California restaurant because he was not wearing a mask came back with a gun and robbed the eatery of chicken and waffles.
The robbery occurred Wednesday evening at the Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles location in Pasadena, police Lt. Marcia Taglioretti told Southern California News Group. No one was hurt and the man got away.
After being turned away, the man showed up with a gun in the kitchen at the back of the restaurant as security cameras recorded the scene.
“He comes straight toward me with a gun, pointing at me and saying put all the chicken in the bag,” cook Robert Gonzalez told KABC-TV.
Manager Angela Prieto said the man did not take any cash.
“He took actually chicken and before he walked out the door he took syrup for his chicken,” Prieto told the station.
The guy puts syrup (probably not real maple syrup either) on his chicken, so what do you expect?
Is that actually a thing? (I've never heard of that.)

I have heard of chicken and waffles (although I have never had it, and the manager sad the guy toook syrup for his chicken, so apparently it is. Maybe it's a southern thing, but then you're in south Jersey, correct?

I'm not *that* far south; I still live in the land of diners, not waffle houses. Our regional vices are scrapple, pork roll and snapper soup with sherry.

But, I believe you would be south of the mason dixon line if it were extended to the Atlantic instead of takng the right turn into Delaware.

Chicken and waffles are most definitely a thing, though I'm with BigRR in not wanting them. A number of local places serve them up, and I've seen them a number of times on the Food Network, e.g.,:

Not me; that's Salem, Cumberland and lower Gloucester counties. I'm in Camden. You do realize that "South Jersey" starts at the Raritan River, right?

It all depends how look at it; personally I think there is a central Jersey distinct from North and South Jersey that includes places like Newark, New Brunswick, Perth Amboy and extends down to Princeton and (at least) the southern border of Monmouth county. Never really. thought about the Camden area, but it could be included in that, Trenton too. It's more urbanized than south Jersey, and includes more tightly packed suburban communities than north Jersey. The southern counties include most of the Pine Barrens (and the pineys), and most of the rural and undeveloped land and farms (very few farms are left in north or central NJ as land prices are so high that it is pretty hard not to sell. And I think a lot of the north/south divide politically involves the northern and central counties and the southern ones.

You may keep the scrapple (please) and the pork roll, but the snapper soup with sherry is a Maryland thing. Along with crabcakes and scalloped oysters.
My father made us waffles every Sunday before church, but never ever have I eaten chicken on a waffle. And I never will.
