I have such intense anger at people like that motherfucking cocksucking piece of garbage waste of air that I promise you if I was in the same room with him when he began saying those ugly stupid MURDEROUS lies I would tackle him sit on him and stab his fucking eyes out with my thumbs. I would then rip his useless tongue out of his head and as the piece d’resistance, I would tear his puny testicles off with my bare bloody hands and stuff them down his throat.

Good thing I’m far from Ohio and my old car ain’t up to a road trip. Fuck him I hope he gets covid19 and dies a miserable death.

PS, before I start getting lectures from the usual suspects about what a horrible human I am for wishing him ill - that’s CRAP. It’s perfectly psychologically healthy and in fact quite normal to vent one’s frustration and anger through fantasy, even violent fantasy. Plenty of writers make a living doing it. So just spare me the lectures, I’ve never so much as intentionally stepped on an ant in my life but I am allowed to dream about how I’d like to see these fucking murderers suffer some small measure of the pain they are sowing in our society right now.

About 30 seconds in, he tells us about Dr Robert Malone who created the mRNA vaccine. NO HE DIDN'T. Dr Malone did some early work on mRNA but he most certainly did not create the vaccine.

This guy is more dangerous than, for example, Osama bin Laden was. He will kill more people. Unfortunately, we let him walk around. BTW Shawn (or Sean) Brooks is not a medical doctor.

The Vaccine Scientist Spreading Vaccine Misinformation
Robert Malone claims to have invented mRNA technology. Why is he trying so hard to undermine its use?
By Tom Bartlett
Robert Malone—a medical doctor and an infectious-disease researcher—recently suggested that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines might actually make COVID-19 infections worse. He chuckled as he imagined Anthony Fauci announcing that the vaccination campaign was all a big mistake (“Oh darn, I was wrong!”) and would need to be abandoned. When he floated that nightmare scenario during a recent podcast interview with Steve Bannon, both men seemed almost delighted at the prospect of public-health officials and pharmaceutical companies getting their comeuppance. “This is a catastrophe,” Bannon declared, beaming at his guest. “You’re hearing it from an individual who invented the mRNA [vaccine] and has dedicated his life to vaccines. He’s the opposite of an anti-vaxxer.”

I came here to post that same Atlantic piece which I read a couple of days ago but couldn't remember where I had seen it. Malone was involved with mRNA research early on, but he is far from the vaccine developer he claims, and others claim him, to be.

invented the mRNA [vaccine]
Interesting, the term "vaccine" is in brackets indicating it was not actually said. Based on that, I am wondering if Bannon really thinks Malone invented mRNA; it wouldn't surprise me.

FWIW, I am more than happy to let the anti-vaxers sate their opinions, but I would like to have the press hold them to their opinions and ask them to provide the proof they rely on. The more we attack and try to suppress those opinions, the more people will be drawn to them. From what I have been able to find out from scientific publications, it appears there is very little support for the bullshit Malone is spewing, but I'd welcome his posting some supporting data and his analysis of it.

It's also interesting to see that the FDA fully approved and licensed the Pfizer vaccine. I'm not always the biggest supporter of the FDA and how they determine efficacy of compounds (and believe we in the US have lost out on some good pharmaceuticals available elsewhere in the world based on this obstinacy), but I have great respect for their safety assessments.

In case you are thinking about the booster shot--please note (I welcome somebody telling me I am wrong) there is no registry of who has been vaccinated with what and when. If you want a booster, just show up at Walgreens or Walmart and tell them you are finally willing to get the first shot.

I became nervous about this aw some of the usual reliable sources, loaded with the usual weasel words (perhaps, probably, some indication) that if you got the full vaccination and had no notable side effect beyond a slight soreness at the site of the shoot--then as we used say about small pox if there was not a big scab--the shot did not take.

I got the Pfizer in January . In early August is got the first Moderna. No, I don't think I used a shot that should have gone to somebody in Haiti. That argument don't fly with me any better than when my mother told me to eat everything on my plate because there were starving kids in China.

snailgate

PS. Yes if you are gonna die if you get the vaccinations. And you are gonna die if you don't. Life is a chronic condition that is always terminal.. (not withstanding the contrary evidence of Lazarus--that is just anecdotal and there was no random sample with controls.)

That method would certainly work and I mentioned elsewhere that I was contemplating getting a Moderna shot after a study was reported that Moderna was far more efficacious long term than Pfizer - study has since been discredited by peer review.

The argument against this method is that vaccine cards are required by more and more employers and businesses, so having no record or an incomplete record would be problematic.

However, the news is reporting today that the booster schedule is going to be moved up to six months from second shot - that makes me eligible as of last week. I’m keeping my eyes open for news that boosters are on offer at my local CVS/Walgreens and will be first in line as I was for the initial protocol. My mother didn’t raise any idiots.

I was just going to get my 1st Shingrix vaccine tomorrow, so now going to check with my doctor’s office about that as I’m not sure how close together I should get the two. It was very foolish of me to procrastinate the Shingrix in the months since my second Pfizer.

I hope all you oldsters who are eligible (50+) are considering or have already gotten your shingles vaccine; of all the folks I’ve cared for in my adventures in patient care, those suffering from shingles were in the most (preventable) agony.

there is no registry of who has been vaccinated with what and when.
Not sure of what states are included, but I do know my state, NJ, maintains a registry and i can be accessed through an app (I think a free app, but I have not checked it out) called Docket. From the website, NJ is not the only state on the app, but I imagine ther states must maintain a registry, whether on the app or not.

Thanks for the reminder.

I discussed this one with my doctor at my last physical (right after my 50th birthday last year). He said, "I want you to get the shingles vaccine, but not just now. One of the side effects of it is a fever and now is NOT the time to be giving people a fever."

I actually have an appointment with him coming up for a follow-up on something else and will broach the subject again.

As for the booster - I'll be in line as soon as they make it available. I got my Moderna in January/February, so I'm past my "six months" target and the October date thrown around will be the previously recommended eight months.

My MD told me that the shingles vaccine was less than 30% effective and not worth the $300 or so it costs so I have passed on it. Hubby has a genetic disease which predisposes to shingles and has had multiple cases and was told the vaccine would do nothing for him. Did get our dtaps when she suggested it.

From the CDC, and peer reviewed clinical studies:
What Everyone Should Know about the Shingles Vaccine (Shingrix)
Shingles vaccination is the only way to protect against shingles and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), the most common complication from shingles. CDC recommends that healthy adults 50 years and older get two doses of the shingles vaccine called Shingrix (recombinant zoster vaccine), separated by 2 to 6 months, to prevent shingles and the complications from the disease. Your doctor or pharmacist can give you Shingrix as a shot in your upper arm.

Shingrix provides strong protection against shingles and PHN. Two doses of Shingrix is more than 90% effective at preventing shingles and PHN. Protection stays above 85% for at least the first four years after you get vaccinated.
About paying for the shingles vaccine:
How Can I Pay For Shingrix?
There are several ways shingles vaccine may be paid for:

Medicare
Medicare Part D plans cover the shingles vaccine, but there may be a cost to you depending on your plan. There may be a copay for the vaccine, or you may need to pay in full then get reimbursed for a certain amount.
Medicare Part B does not cover the shingles vaccine.

Medicaid
Medicaid may or may not cover the vaccine. Contact your insurer to find out.

Private health insurance
Many private health insurance plans will cover the vaccine, but there may be a cost to you depending on your plan. Contact your insurer to find out.

Vaccine assistance programs
Some pharmaceutical companies provide vaccines to eligible adults who cannot afford them. You may want to check with the vaccine manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline, about Shingrix.
The importance of getting medical advice from an authoritative source cannot be overstated. There are, sadly, too many doctors and nurses who either subscribe to antivaxxer conspiracies or don’t bother to educate themselves properly on the scientific findings on vaccines.

I’ve had the shingles vaccine. My doctor recommended that I wait and get a newer and supposedly more effective version of the vaccine in a couple years. If I recall correctly, I think he was not sure about the ‘more effective’ claim since it is relatively new.

Shingrix was approved by the FDA and recommended by the CDC in 2017 specifically because it was so much more effective.

C.D.C. Panel Recommends a New Shingles Vaccine
WASHINGTON — In an unusually close vote, an advisory panel to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday recommended the use of a new vaccine to prevent shingles over an older one that was considered less effective.

The decision was made just days after the Food and Drug Administration announced approval of the new vaccine, called Shingrix and manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, for adults ages 50 and older. The panel’s recommendation gives preference to the new vaccine over Merck’s Zostavax, which has been the only shingles vaccine on the market for over a decade and was recommended for people ages 60 and older.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices also recommended that adults who have received the older vaccine get the new one. Even with the committee vote, this recommendation still awaits formal endorsement by the head of the C.D.C., which usually takes a couple of months. Insurance companies must also agree to cover the cost of the vaccine, which GSK estimates to be $280 for two doses.

According to the C.D.C., almost one of every three people in the United States will contract shingles, a viral infection that can result in a painful rash and lasting nerve damage.

The disease, also known as herpes zoster, can range in severity from barely noticeable to debilitating. It is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which also causes chickenpox.

Once a person has had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue. Years later, it may reactivate as shingles. The C.D.C. estimates that about one million cases are diagnosed in the United States each year.

“This is what we’ve been waiting for,” said Dr. Anne Louise Oaklander, an associate professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School and an expert in the disease. “Shingles is an unappreciated and common cause of severe problems throughout the nervous system.”

Dr. Oaklander said that while rash symptoms lead some people to consider shingles as minor as a bad sunburn, the illness can cause strokes, encephalitis, spinal cord damage and loss of vision.

Given in one dose, Zostavax had shown a 51 percent reduction in shingles and a 67 percent reduction in nerve pain. Shingrix is given in two doses, and the company said clinical trials showed it to be about 98 percent effective for one year and about 85 percent over three years.

By preventing shingles, the vaccine also drastically reduces the overall incidence of severe nerve pain, a lasting complication for about one in three people who get shingles. GlaxoSmithKline said it tested the vaccine in more than 38,000 people.

“We believe Shingrix will provide confidence in the protection one can expect from a shingles vaccine,” said Luc Debruyne, the company’s president of global vaccines.

The recommendation of the advisory committee will be considered an endorsement of Shingrix over Zostavax, although the closeness of the committee vote, 8 to 7, may mitigate the market loss for Merck.

Dr. Kathleen Dooling, a medical officer in the C.D.C.’s division of viral disease, said she expected the agency’s final recommendation to be issued early next year.

“The Shingrix vaccine has the potential to prevent tens of thousands of cases of shingles and its complications,” Dr. Dooling said.

She cautioned, however, that more people had adverse reactions to Shingrix than to Zostavax, including fever and muscle aches.

“Patients and health care providers should be aware that this vaccine is very effective, but it also causes more reactions than they may be used to with other adult vaccines,” she said. “All indications are these are not dangerous to one’s health, but they may interfere with your daily activities for a few days.”
Posted the whole article as a public service since NYT has a paywall.

My friends and family and patients who have had shingles had the absolutely agonizing version, and I can’t overstate the pain they obviously experienced from it - it hurt to watch. Imagine that your clothing touching your body feels like knives run over your skin. And as the article mentions, it can cause other very serious complications up to and including death. If you’re over 50, it’s well worth the investment to get the vaccine - even out of pocket the price is right if you consider most of us would pay an arm and leg to avoid that level of pain or long term nerve damage, etc. And it is estimated 95% of adult Americans have had chicken pox, so the risk of shingles is very widespread.

I had the Shingrix vaccine. IIRC the pharmacist told me it had to be separated from the COVID vaccination date by 4 weeks; and it cost me around $60 each shot. (Medicare.)

Yeah, I've known two people who developed shingles. One guy (my neighbor who was in his 80s) got it on his scalp and told me he was in such pain that he would sometimes bang his head against the wall. I have no idea how that helped him. The other person - a woman - had it on her back and said it was the worst pain (and burning sensation) that she had ever experienced.
