I was reading through headlines this morning and stumbled on this one. Some of you may not want to read the full text of the article as it contains disturbing discussion of child exploitation.
What sickens me is that this guy, who facilitated distribution of 8.5 MILLION images and videos of child pornography is getting only 27 years in prison. Why the hell isn’t he going away for LIFE?! The federal sentencing laws on child pornography would easily accommodate a life sentence for that volume of offensive imagery.
The judge recommended under his plea agreement that he get credit for 8 years in custody while the legal proceedings ran their course; if the bureau of prisons complied with that recommendation (it’s discretionary on their part) he'll only serve 19 years.

This guy is only 36. When he gets out - whether in 19 or 27 years - he’ll be plenty young enough to reoffend. He promised he would never do it again. Does anybody believe that a man who trafficked in child torture can be relied upon to keep a promise? To have a conscience?
It seems like child victims aren’t all that important to the DOJ. I’m sickened.

You have a lot more experience with how plea bargains are reached, but I would hope he cooperated and provided information that permits them to arrest a lot other major players in the ring to get the reduced sentence. Even then the sentence seems very lenient, but sometimes it is the only way to get other offenders apprehended.
