Might as well take a selfie. If she was taking video, I bet she said, "I'm literally standing on my sinking car, eh".

Wonder if there is a specific exclusion in the insurance policy for intentionally dunking your car in a lake, or if they'll have to go with a more general policy provision that excludes acts caused by being a dumbs#it.

Although her actions were stupid as hell, I don't believe she was intentionally trying to do this, as in "let's see how far I can get before this Scion turns into a submarine."   It's not unusual for people up here in the North Country (Wisconsin/Minnesota/UP Michigan) to drive their cars, ATVs, or snowmobiles out onto frozen lakes and rivers to go ice fishing (although even then, we natives will sometime misjudge the ice and end up dunking one or two every year anyway).   In fact, up in FAR north Minnesota, they've marked out a highway of sorts across Lake of the Woods along the Minnesota/Canada border to permit vehicular traffic to reach the Northwest Angle, a part of Minnesota that is otherwise inaccessible by land vehicles without crossing the border and transiting a portion of Canada itself.

Based on what I saw in the video, I'm guessing she thought she could short-cut across the lake — especially when I see how fast she was going in the early part of that clip — and judging from the later pictures that show how close to shore she was when she finally broke through, ran into some thin ice close to the shoreline ... which is not at all uncommon, especially if there is drainage from a stream or housing runoff near that point since the shallower, still-moving water will not freeze as thickly as the deeper, stiller water out in the middle.

That was my take on it too, Bill. In fact, near the beginning of the video you can see plenty of tire tracks in the foreground and even what appears to be another car driving on the ice, off in the distance.
