A California woman was rescued after getting stuck inside a nonflush vaulted toilet at Mount Walker in Washington state.
As reported by KCPQ in Seattle, the unidentified woman dropped her cellphone while using it on the toilet at the mountaintop, which is a part of Olympic National Forest, Tuesday afternoon.
The woman took desperate measures to rescue her phone, according to a Facebook post shared Tuesday by the Brinnon Fire Department, first dissembling the toilet seat and using her dog’s leash to latch onto the phone. When that was unsuccessful, she ended up using the dog’s leash as a harness to lower herself into the toilet.
“They didn’t work very well and in she went,” Brinnon Fire Department Chief Tim Manly told the Kitsap Sun. The Brinnon Fire Department said in the post that she fell in the toilet headfirst.
The woman reportedly struggled for 15 minutes, Manly added, before she was able to retrieve her phone. Fortunately, she was able to get cell service and called 911 to the scene.
KCPQ reports that fire officials at the scene made a “cribbing platform” that she was able to hold onto and get rescued, using blocks to stand on.
She was unharmed and did not require medical transport, though she was washed down and given a Tyvek hazmat-style* suit to wear, the department wrote.
