They were - they were just keeping a low profile.

American Idol?  Is that show still around?
And who (or what) is Carrie Underwood?  Are they related to the company that made typewriters and other business machines?

I have always considered the name of the tv show to be spelled wrong--it should be American Idle.

Surely not! American Idyll, I think.

If it's American it's idyl; English English is idyll.

I know this because I try to do the NYT crossword daily with no lookups. Nov 21 2021, 63A was 'Rustic verse' and once I had a few crosses I knew it had to be IDYL. I had never, as far as I knew, seen it spelled that way so I had to look it up and sure enough it's the US spelling of a word I am familiar with as IDYLL. I'm used to US spelling idiosyncrasies such as honor and humor and aluminum but I had lived 36+ years in this country but never come across that one. In the same way as the English time-wasting-talentless-waste-of-space is spelled (spelt) in American as Kardashian.
