Weight training is having a celeb moment, what with Paris Hilton's astonishingly muscled-up body and Cameron Diaz looking amazingly toned and honed.

Now, there's a piece of equipment to glamorise resistance training and take the tedium out of lifting weights (yes that is possible).

BodyVib is a vibrating dumbbell, which could be the hot exercise craze of the summer.

Its makers claim it cuts down training time and speeds up results.

So how does it work?

Think Power Plate in a dumb-bell. When you pick up a BodyVib dumb-bell, it begins vibrating.

So as you perform bicep curls or tricep extensions, these ultra-fast vibrations make your muscles contract and relax in quick succession, producing the effect with fewer repetitions.

You can also use lighter weights - and they look sleek and chic. But the cost, £675 per pair, is enough to make your brain start vibrating in alarm.

So, for now, they may remain the preserve of celebs and sporting personalities already said to be mad about them.
