What would I be saying if I put up a sign telling potential burglars to beware of my alarm? I would be saying that I want to protect my property; I don't care what happens to others. I don't want to scare burglars off; I want to put them in jail.

What would you need an alarm system for? Don't those report to the police or a third party like ADT or Brinks, who then sends either the police or their own rent-a-cop out to check the matter? I thought you were a descendant of the people of the steppes; one of the last of those macho men whose attitude was never trust the cops to do what a good man with a gun can do for himself.
Or is the alarm system just to tell you where and when you're being 'invaded' so you can set up your ambush in the proper place?"
I have no interest in being a macho man, whatever that means, and I have never had. I'm not even a particularly violent person. But, I was as prepared to kill people during the Cold War. But it turned out I didn't have to, which doesn't bother me. Sometimes violence is what the situation calls for, and when that's what's needed, I can do it. But I'm just as happy to let the sheriff do his job; actually, I prefer it.
And as far as my steppe ancestors go, they fought to protect their lands because that's what they needed to do. Generally, the men fought, and the women cared for the children, but that wasn't always the case. Some women were warriors, and even some were queens. So, I wonder if they had a concept of macho or not. I suspect they were practical people who did not let such ideas interfere with what made sense. Anything that made them stronger was good, and anything that made them weaker was bad. They had to be strong to keep their grazing lands; if they lost them, life was perilous. Then starvation and extermination were real possibilities.
