I just had to share this. I suspect there is a planned international manhunt Involving the FBI and Interpol to locate this felon and dig him out of his hiding hole. How many years in prison will he get for this heinous murderous crime, or should he face the death penalty?

Pride Flag crosswalk skidded with tire marks sparking rage among liberals

Surveillance footage shows a driver vandalizing a St. Pete Pride mural, causing significant damage. The St. Petersburg Police are investigating two incidents where vehicles marred the mural with tire marks.

Dr. Byron Green-Calisch, President of St. Pete Pride, expressed disappointment but not surprise, viewing the mural as a symbol of welcome and inclusivity. Mayor Ken Welch condemned the act, affirming the city’s stance against hate. The police seek information on the involved vehicles, urging the public to report any leads.

However, conservatives say that the same level of respect towards the American flag is no longer there. Following that, someone were to burn the American flag, they would probably not receive much repercussions. Most conservatives agree that the American flag is a symbol of freedom and it should be respected.

Furthermore, X users state that this is bound to happen as cars are quite literally driving on the road everyday. Tire and skid marks are a common feature on regular crosswalks as well. However, there are concerns from the liberals that this could possibly be a hate crime towards the LGBTQ community.

Would have been only a one-minute read if they hadn't duplicated the first three paragraphs...
... although I think that's more a display of liberty's copy-and-paste skills (or lack thereof).

I'm still admiring this:

Burning the flag is an act of grief and loss, proclaiming the absence of the 'liberty and justice for all" such a flag represents. It is also a protected act of freedom of speech supported by the Supremes. I have heard of NO ONE within this country driving a car over the flag and leaving skid marks on it. The case of flag burning that went to the Supremes documented that the flag burner very carefully did not let the flag touch the ground during the entire process.

The case of the professional football athlete who disrespected the flag by KNEELING [ I thought that position was a sign of greater respect than just standing] when it was brought onto the playing field was effectively banned from his profession for life. Yet the flag in those instances was displayed flat, horizontally--a manner prohibited by the flag code. Patriotism is indeed the refuge of scoundrels.

Oh yes, Liberty, thanks for sharing. Snailgate

What the hell should one expect; when you place something on the ground you should expect it to be marred. And, this is St. Petersburg Florida, a big liberal city, where graffiti and vandalism is a human right. It is hypocritical when graffiti is not normally punished to treat this as a hate crime and sentence someone to years in prison for expressing their opinion, even if it is stupid and misguided. This is stupid liberalism to the extreme.

Lib--while I agree is free speech, it is possible that some laws may have been broken (e.g., the person was driving on someone's private property or in a area where driving was not permitted, such as a roped off area). In any event, I strongly suspect no one is facing "years in prison" for their actions.

Yes but no. It's a crosswalk - which means it's on a road. And if the city put the road, the crosswalk and the colors of the rainbow on the crosswalk then it's public property (surely?). And you doesn't get to tarnish public property - especially protected political posturing.

Now - to put the mural there is a statement of opinion. To do donuts on it is also a statement of opinion. But one opinion is protected - a special class - and the other isn't? Mein Dew, it's possible that doing donuts on the street is a misty meaner on its own. Hardly a call for Elliot Ness.

The difference is the slippery slope of "hate crime". I may be corrected but I've a vague notion that hate crime was originally supposed to be a tag-on to the more usual charges in case of assault or harm. It was an enhancement? But of course, it soon becomes a thing in itself. Or perhaps it always was. Meh

Now you can say f*** and c*** all over the street (no matter who is offended) and all you'll get is an upside-down flag and a refusal to recuse. But you doesn't has to call me Johnston because if you do, you are in trouble. (Heavens this coding thing is tough). Because "hate crime" is aimed at wrong groups on behalf of the correct groups. Which is kinda the point of any law really. Isn't it?

Good luck to the donut person. Express your opinion. You helped pay for the thing. Probably. Now doing donuts on the sainted Colin would be a crime and deserve time in the stripey hole.

Meade--I do not believe the town put the mural in; it says it was St. Pete Pride, a private organization. Now if the town sanctioned it and permitted it to be placed on the road, I would think there may be a vandalism charge (just like the unauthorized tearing don of a confederate statue on public property should be vandalism), but if they just painted it on the road, perhaps not. But I personally don't buy the hate crime enhancement--there's not overt, or even subtle threat to anyone, just a statement of opinion (which I maintain someone has a right to voice, however much I think they are wrong.

And as for
Now you can say f*** and c*** all over the street (no matter who is offended) and all you'll get is an upside-down flag and a refusal to recuse.
, spot on. But no recusal.

In this case the prosecution would need to prove in court that the accused person is the one who actually committed the alleged crime.

That's when the rubber meets the road.
