Sad news

Post by Econoline »

This is actually Mike's daughter writing in. I hope this is the right place to post this. I'm very sad to share that my dad passed away Tuesday night. It was very quick--I think there was little suffering, as I know he wanted to go. I know this forum was so special to him, and he really cherished his friendships with all of you. Dad was shy in person, and I am so glad that he had a place where he felt connected and welcome and appreciated for the funny, smart person he was. I will check this a few more times, but if anyone wants to be in touch to talk more about him, it would probably be best to use my email: natashadomina@hotmail.com

I just wanted to share with you that Mike reached out to me a few times by PM and email during the lowest time of my life, and he was unfailingly kind and encouraging and clearly truly concerned for the fate of a fellow human he’d never met and hardly knew. Between that and the wit he shared on the board it was obvious to me he was a true mensch. My heart is heavy at his absence from this corporeal plane.

I’m glad for you that you have had such a person as your dad, and I know the memory of his love will sustain you and in that way he’s always with you.

My sincerest condolences to you and your family on this loss and my best wishes that you find peace in the journey ahead.

Thanks for writing in, Natasha. My daughter will do the same for me one day, I suppose. I appreciated your Dad's wit and observations and I shall miss him. You will too of course: and probably all here will agree with me in telling you that it does get easier with time. And you will find yourself doing something like folding the newspaper in a certain way or peeling a boiled egg or packing a suitcase and remembering with a smile: Dad used to do it like that. That's how our parents and the generations live on.

My condolences to you and your family as well. It was a privilege to know your father, even if only through this site and not in person. He will be missed.

He was always the gentleman when posting here, even with those of us (me included) who didn't always deserve it. Condolences to your family.

He will be missed, even by those of us who knew him only from our interactions with him on this board and its antecedents, such as CarTalk.  May your memories of him be a blessing and a comfort to you.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Damn, the most decent guy on the site is gone. I was planning on a trip to that area, but never got around to it, it just shows you shouldn't put things off.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.
