I'm guessing he would have swung more to the revolutionary side if he had lived to see this regime.

That wouldn't surprise me, even if he dd support W. Trump is orders of magnitude worse and should appall most sentient beings, although some gulp hard because they think he can give them what they want--usually reduced taxes.

I was just thinking of Jim this week, and our other dearly departed friends. Miss them all, but kind of envious they don't have to suffer through the moral outrage of our decline into fascism.

I am not surprised by my results - the older I get the more I care most about environmental degradation, and especially considering the reasons we are doing most of it, to feed obsessive compulsive overconsumption which is driving degradation of the human spirit - it's all so awful.

Odd - me too, four nights back while trying to fall asleep. Jim and Ray, Econo and more from before.
Don't know why, unless it was rubato snarking once again.

Much as I have greatly loving and loved friends (granted, in South Africa mostly), I've hung around off and on with most of yez for longer than almost anyone still alive in my RL. Ain't no-one else I check in with every day other than Margaretta.

But more on topic. Trump is a force for radicalization, even for me. If the party is this far off beam, then it's time to find another party - one with which I can disagree politely but support for the balance of good it promises to achieve. That and Terry Pratchett have driven me leftward . . . I will probably recover . . .

I haven't taken the test. It's a little close to the bone. I am trying to revive a 60s/70s era organization I belonged to - I was a founding member - which broke up in the recriminations which were rife in that era. Political purity was all, to the extent that common purpose was sometimes lost: the Trots didn't talk to the Marxist-Leninists and the Socialists were beyond the pale and no-one acknowledged the Maoists - student politics was enormous fun but ultimately stultifying.

The fact is that violence *is* sometimes justified. Not only in abstract terms, but in real, concrete, physical demonstrations that Nazis/fascists cannot and will not be tolerated. And if we haven't passed that point already, I don't want to end up too far beyond it; experience has taught us what happens when these people get real power.

I'm working on Margaretta to allow me to re-arm. Coupla long arms and one not-automatic pistol should do it.

You may well be right Sue, but the violence has to be aimed toward an end and not just violence for its own sake. Bombing a government building may be justified, but not a shopping mall, even though that may speak more loudly. But that's the kind of things I heard and saw in some of the groups I was involved with. I understood (and still understand) the frustration that led to it, but I couldn't be part of it. But if the rule of law is severely compromised and these jerkd can d whatever they want, I may have to seriously reconsider that position.
