I support the idea because, even if A genocide is not happening at the moment, the chances of it occurring in the future are extremely high. Considering South Africa is a country with no Welfare safety net and high levels of poverty, crime, and tribalism, I believe it is just a matter of time until they, the whites of South Africa, find themselves in a desperate situation with no help coming. Men women and children can be killed with no pity and no Empathy from the outside world because of their ancestry and the color of their skin. Those who did not take the offer to leave when the opportunity presented itself may find themselves wishing they had—but by then, it will be too late. For once, the U.S. government has taken a proactive approach rather than its usual reactive stance.

I believe we have a responsibility to take them in as it was our pressure—along with that of other governments—that put them in this situation. In general, they felt that if they ever lost power, they would be in a desperate situation, and I think they were right.

I also think we owe the same responsibility to our Afghan allies, and, in general, to the people of Ukraine. The white South Africans won’t be a big issue since there aren’t that many of them, but the number of Ukrainian refugees could reach tens of millions.

Make no mistake—taking in so many people would put extreme pressure on our system and affect our standard of living. However, we have no choice. We gave our word.

In general, I don't have a problem with threatened minorities having the entry ropes lowered on their behalf. But white South Africans are hardly threatened - currently whites, although they are 7% of the population, control 70 of the country's farmland. Whites in general have salaries which are vastly greater than those of black South Africans. Until 30 years ago apartheid was the law of the land. And although SA has more than its share of violence, there appears to be no evidence that whites are disproportionately affected.

There are minorities all over the world which are threatened far more than are the whites of South Africa. Religious minorities in China and Myanmar and the Gulf States (our new best buddies, apparently). Muslims in India.

Trump opening the doors to just this one sliver of humanity appears to be driven purely by his notions of white superiority. The man is a dangerous, incompetent, buffoon.

Crime stats are not systematically collected by race in South Africa, but one estimate I heard recently was that there are something like 25,000 murders per year, of which less than 1% are whites (who are 20% of the population).

If that's a genocide, then it's a pretty piss poorly executed one.

South Africa has a welfare safety net described by Reuters as an "increasing rarity in the developing world".


It is under increasing and seemingly intractable pressure from unemployment and no, it was never close to a living wage. But then, neither are actual wages. Which accounts for the high levels of poverty and crime. Tribalism outside of KwaZulu Natal is not perhaps as prevalent as one might expect. Any resolution of SA's problems is further endangered by disengagement of the USA from supporting HIV/Aids programs, commerce, increasing tariff barriers etc. while China, Russia and to a less extent India and Brazil seize the opportunity to build a stronger alliance. That's tribalism too, ain't it?

While bashing whites is popular among Trump-type demagogues such as JuJu and anyone named Zuma, the ANC is only too aware (after many years of denial) that it is generally speaking white people who keep the economy (and particular in paying taxes) going. They've seen what happened in Zimbabwe and it's the last thing they want. But their weakness is in failure to govern properly and thereby allowing civil society to collapse bit by bit. There is a enough danger in SA for everyone to desire to leave and yet they don't. Trump's plan is nothing more and nothing less than a racist agenda and petty penalizing of South African people for their government's voting that Israel's war in Gaza became genocide shortly after it began.

The pretend president in DC is an utter asshole - scum of the world - and deserves whatever evil might happen to him.
