Man arrested for 'substantial' drug possession on way to Burning Man

Police said a man was found to be in possession of a “substantial” amount of narcotics on his way to Burning Man, in Yerington, Nev., on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025.

A man heading to Burning Man on Wednesday night was arrested on drug charges, according to the Yerington Police Department in Nevada.

The man was driving a cargo van with obstructed license plates when he was pulled over for driving left of the center line on the highway, police said in a news release on social media Thursday. The driver told police he was on the way to Black Rock City for Burning Man, according to the release.

After the van pulled over, a K-9 “conducted an open-air sniff around the vehicle,” and gave a positive alert for narcotics, police said.

A probable-cause search yielded a “substantial” amount of drugs, according to the police statement: “104 grams of crack cocaine, 6.1 grams of methamphetamine, ecstasy, psilocybin mushrooms, 9.0 grams of MDMA (Molly), 9.9 grams of Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), 3.4 grams of 2CB (synthetic psychedelic drug), LSD tabs and multiple vape pens suspected of containing 2CB.”

Officers also found gram scales and packaging materials, and prescription drugs including Oxycodone, Vicodin, Valium and Xanax, in the man’s possession, police said.

The 48-year-old man was booked on multiple drug-related charges, and is being held in Lyon County Jail in Nevada on a $248,000 bail.

Honestly, aside from all the crack, it doesn't sound like that much to me, especially if you're planning to party nonstop for a week with a bunch of friends. But that *is* a lot of crack.
