Should this not be the responsibility of the federal government?

Should this not be the responsibility of the federal government? I'm sure you agree, because you've said before that states do what they want, what they need to do—and the federal government does what it does. The federal government can't do the job of the states.

But here’s a case where the state of California is doing the job of the federal government. Actually, I don't believe you truly believe in federalism. Your wishy-washy attitude changes depending on who's in office. When Democrats are in office, suddenly the federal government is dominant over everything. But when you're out of office, you become great believers in federalism.

That’s called hypocrisy, people. Think about it.

Sacramento, CA – To defend human rights and civil liberties, Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) has introduced SB 509, a critical measure to address the growing threat of transnational repression in California. Transnational repression refers to the efforts of foreign governments to intimidate, harass, threaten, or harm individuals living outside their home country, often targeting dissidents, activists, journalists, or marginalized communities. These actions can include digital surveillance, coercion, legal manipulation (such as misuse of INTERPOL notices), and even physical violence, undermining human rights and civil liberties in democratic societies. The bill ensures that law enforcement officers receive specialized training to identify and respond to the persecution of diaspora communities by foreign governments, reinforcing California’s commitment to justice and safety for all residents.

It's called appealing to your base. There is no indication that this proposal is going anywhere.

I can't quite agree, lib. For example, I think the present government of the United States is doing all it can to intimidate, harass, threaten, or harm individuals living inside their home country, often targeting dissidents, activists, journalists, or marginalized communities.

So I certainly don't expect Trump to support any efforts to stop his fellow yellow-spined fascist thugs from being nasty to Americans

The issue at hand is foreign governments harassing, threatening, and intimidating American residents and some citizens who have criticized their former governments, such as India.

Personally, I don’t see what can realistically be done if the agents sent by these foreign countries are willing to sacrifice themselves, martyrs for the glory of their homeland. You can’t assign armed guards to every resident or citizen who recently immigrated from another country. That’s simply not feasible.

And if he lives in a liberal state, he’d better not practice self-defense without first accurately reading the mind of the local prosecutor.

OMG you are just relentless in your idiocy. From your own post:

If only you could read, you would notice that the bill provides training for police in how to deal with criminal and coercive activity in the state. State "police powers" (which include law enforcement and management of other public safety services) are specifically reserved to the states under the 10th Amendment to the Constitution. Federal legislation was also introduced in Congress that would impose sanctions on foreign persons and entities engaging in such activities and provide training to federal employees and law enforcement. *That's* the federal government's job, and that's how federalism works you absolute mollusk.
