Canadian mother defends keeping gender secret

Updated: May 27, 2011, 11:04 AM

TORONTO (AP) - A Canadian couple is defending their controversial decision to keep the sex of their baby a secret.

Kathy Witterick says her 4-month-old baby Storm should be able to develop its own sexual identity without having to conform to social stereotypes or bow to pre-determined expectations associated with gender.

Witterick said in an e-mail Friday that the idea that "the whole world must know what is between the baby's legs is unhealthy, unsafe and voyeuristic. We know - and we're keeping it clean, safe, healthy and private (not secret!)."

Their decision has created a firestorm of criticism.

I give up.

I can't post anything in the news that hasn't already been posted by Gob.

From now on I'll just assume what I'm about to post has already been posted, so I won't post it.

Sure you can Joe....

Just post any US based story that doesn't somehow show the country in decline, or inferior to other countries in some way.... 8-)

This is where Gob will chime in about not being anti-American. It's Pavlovian. :fu

You know, I've seen the accusation about Strop not liking America, and well, it's just totally unfair....

Sure, he doesn't like our form of government, our politicians, our politics, our state-federal system, our laws, or a lot of our Constitutional rights....

our foreign policies, our domestic policies, our tax policies, our defense policies, our health care system, our judicial system, our religiosity, or our anti terror policies....

our music, our musicians, our books, our authors, our news media, our TV shows, our movies, our actors, our actresses, our sports, our comedians our comedies, or our dramas....

But aside from those few little details, he's a BIG fan of the good ol' US 0f A!

He is a badly misguided fellow, but hey, he would point out that we all have faults. (Especially we Americans.)

Well, cut off my legs and call me Shorty!!

I should have figured that one out myself.

From now on, when I plan on posting anything relating to the latest news I'll try to post something that hasn't happened here yet.

Heh. I noticed that. I must say I was rather taken aback that he hates our food with your beer. That might be why he usually drinks a red instead.

Ha ha!!

You wrote "our food".

Which means you don't like your own food, so you might possibly enjoy some food from America more than your own.

I knew there was something about the U.S. you almost liked.

And 'typo' is not a valid excuse... :D

Is not.

It's a parapraxis.

We don't speak 'English' here in the U.S.A.

We speak American.

Y'all need to get your language understandings straight.

Further, you're most likely speaking more Australian nowadays and don't even realize it.
