What more does this woman need to do to prove to even the most diehard Republicans that she is an idiot? Pegging her accurately as a "brainless bimbette in fashion frames" when she got the VP nod in 2008 got me accused of "visceral hatred" by her supporters on the CSB; I wonder if there is anyone left standing to defend her now.

Well...

First of all it should probably be noted in fairness that Palin seems extremely tired in this video...

And the second thing that should be noted is that while she screwed this up, if you listen to what she said she didn't make the screw up that the media seems to want to imply by the way they have characterized this....

The header, "Palin Says Paul Revere Warned The British" is clearly meant to imply that Palin said that Revere was doing the opposite of what he was in fact doing; that he was warning the British against the Colonialists; as though he had ridden through the night yelling "The Colonists are coming! The Colonists are coming!" so that the loyalists and British soldiers would be "warned"....

To be sure she bollixed the story but not in that way...

From what she said, she appears to be trying to turn the Paul Revere story into some sort of protest for gun rights; (which is admittedly pretty strange) she's got Paul riding around apparently yelling something like, "Hey you British, you're not going to able to take our guns away!" ...

My guess is, that earlier in the day Palin was probably doing a lot of speechifying about the Obama Administration wanting to deny people their 2nd Amendment rights, (which is one of her stock stump themes) and so when she was asked about Revere, his ride sort of morphed into this theme in her mind....

As I said nearly three years ago:
No one is as good at trashing Palin as she is herself, and she can blame nothing but her own hubris. When she is unscripted she is an outright disaster; she shows herself to be clueless, callow, shallow and incapable.

I have seen nothing to change my opinion.

I have seen nothing that even remotely implies this; it would be tantamount to saying that Palin believed Revere to be some sort of traitor rather than an American patriot, which she obviously does not, so just as obviously that could not be the implication anyone was trying to convey.

They are portraying her as an idiot for not knowing the actual story, and they are right.

And to attribute that lapse in knowledge to fatigue is patently ridiculous. She plainly doesn't know her history. Given her previous streams of idiocy, does this come across as any sort of surprise?

That's funny; everything I've seen clearly implies that; (including the title of the YouTube video in the OP...though "loyalist" rather than "traitor" might be a better way to put it)

The basics of the Paul Revere is a story of "warning" of 'raising the alarm"....

To keep referring to this as "Palin Says Paul Revere Warned The British" with no further elaboration, is obviously intended to convey the impression that Palin got the story that every school child knows backwards....

Well, there's one Republican who obviously isn't over being smitten by this bimbo.

With thanks to the Christian Science Monitor;
Listen my children and you shall hear
Of Sarah Palin’s tale of Paul Revere.
On the second of June, in twenty-eleven,
She put pundits in TV heaven,
As far from the facts her words did veer.

She said to a crowd: “He warned the British
They wouldn’t be takin’ our guns away.
He rang those bells lickity-splittish
As he rode his horse though town, hooray!
And he also sent out warning shots
To show that security, we’d have lots,
And that Americans were gonna be free,
As all of us armed we were gonna be,
One gun by land, and two if by sea"!

And on to the next stop rode Sarah Palin;
And so to the next stop went her entourage, too.
Greta Van Susteren stuck to them like glue.
A tour for publicity (not that she’s running),
More stops in New Hampshire (is that Romney moaning?)
The “One Nation” tour rolls on in the gloaming.
For, borne on the right wing of the Party,
Annoying the haters who think they’re so smarty,
As the other contenders bore voters to tears,
Ms. Palin distracts them. That’s what Newt fears.

LOL

Guess you missed this:

Sarah Palin is a complete imbecile....

Interviewed by Fox New's Chris Wallace yesterday, she said a series of things so stunningly, breathtakingly stupid, that she has carved out a special place for herself in the history of stupidity....On The Mount Rushmore of Stupidity, her visage will figure prominently....

I think that interview may very well mark the beginning of the end for the former Governor of Alaska.....She completely self-destructed on national television, much like the Junior Senator from Wisconsin did, fifty years ago....

Where to begin....

...
No Mrs. Palin, "that Ronald Reagan" served eight years as Governor of the most populous state in the union before being elevated to the Presidency; please do not compare yourself and your half term as Governor of Alaska to the record of The Gipper....

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1354&p=16685&hilit=Palin#p16685
But don't feel bad; you're not the only one who's gotten where I've stood on Palin wrong:
You've done nothing but ridicule and belittle Sarah Palin from the day she was identified as a possible running mate for McCain.

Bull shit, Dave.

I've always felt that a good indicator of when you can tell you're looking at things fairly is when you get slammed by ideologues on both sides....

Well Scooter, I guess you must have thought better of that "smitten by this bimbo" comment, since you've deleted it.....

For those who weren't here when it was still up, where Scooter now has the Paul Revere poem satire, he had originally written:
Well, there's one Republican who obviously isn't over being smitten by this bimbo.
As a response to my previous post.

Sorry, I didn't mean to edit out the original post, only wanted to add the poem (and I have now edited the original comment back in).

What other reason could there be for needing to read something that isn't there, in order to defend her from being attacked about something that exists only in your imagination?

Scooter, it's what "isn't there" (the explanation as to what she's "warning" about in the lead) that makes it so obviously misleading...

Frankly I'm not sure why what she did say would make her necessarily look better than getting the story backwards...(except maybe that getting it backwards has more humor value) but for whatever reason, the idea that she got the story backwards is clearly what "Palin Says Revere Warned The British" is intended to convey, and this is the way many in the press have played it.

ABC News:
Sarah Palin Offers Her Own Version of Paul Revere's Midnight Ride

June 03, 2011 2:26 PM

ABC News' Sheila Marikar (@SheilaYM) reports:

Perhaps this week's lesson in the annals of American history was necessary for Sarah Palin.

In Boston yesterday, visiting Paul Revere's house, she offered her own account of the Revolutionairy War hero's midnight ride from Boston to Lexington, Mass.:

"He who warned, uh, the ... the British that they weren't gonna be taking away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells and, um, by making sure that as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that, uh, we were gonna be secure and we were gonna be free ... and we were gonna be armed."
A contextually complete quote making it clear what she thought Revere was warning the British about.

USA Today:
Sarah Palin gives her account of Paul Revere's ride

Sarah Palin apparently flubbed details of Paul Revere's famous midnight ride when she visited Boston yesterday.

The former Alaska governor, who may or may not be running for the GOP presidential nomination, thought Revere was warning the British army during the Revolutionary War.

Here's the transcript, from New York magazine, of what she told reporters who were trailing her on her bus tour of historical sites:
He who warned, uh, the … the British that they weren't gonna be takin' away our arms, uh, by ringin' those bells and, um, by makin' sure that as he's ridin' his horse through town to send those warnin' shots and bells that, uh, we were gonna be secure and we were gonna be free … and we were gonna be armed.
A statement that she thought Revere was warning the British, followed by the same contextually complete quote making clear exactly what she thought that warning was about.

LA Times:
Sarah Palin claims Paul Revere warned the British

June 3, 2011 | 2:45pm

Sarah Palin, if you haven't heard, is taking some of her family around the country, visiting historical U.S. landmarks, and talking to the media along the way.

Thursday her "One Nation" traveling road show stopped in Boston, where the former Alaska governor, her parents, her husband, and little Piper visited Paul Revere's house, the Old North Church, and Bunker Hill. Palin posted photos of that leg of her trip on the SarahPAC blog.

One moment that you won't find posted on the blog is Palin's response to reporters when they asked her who Paul Revere was. Instead of saying, "Come on, everyone knows who Paul Revere, the silversmith and patriot is," she stammered while saying this:

"He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed."
Again, the headline that she said Revere "warned the British" is followed by a contextually complete quote, leaving no doubt about what her gaffe actually was.

I think it would be just dandy if she kept on going just as she is, right into the nomination battle.

And I think Michelle Bachmann and Sharon Angle should join her.

I wouldn't go that far.

I'd say that many people who voted for Palin & McCain were voting for their party without thinking about the potential disaster that might have resulted in a Republican victory.

So those voters were stupid, not idiots.
