No One Wants A Red-Headed Baby

I used to be a red head before my hair turned gray. I found this particularly disturbing.
The world's largest sperm bank is telling redheads to keep their semen.

Demand for ginger-haired donors is so low that Cryos International says they needn't bother donating.

"There are too many redheads in relation to demand," Ole Schou, the director of Cryos, told the Danish newspaper, Ekstrabladet, according to London's Telegraph.

Men with scarlett manes sell "like hot cakes" in Ireland, Schou said, but that's about it.

"I do not think you choose a redhead, unless the partner - for example, the sterile male - has red hair, or because the lone woman has a preference for redheads," he said, the Telegraph reported. "And that's perhaps not so many, especially in the latter case."

Men with brown hair and brown eyes are very popular, Schou noted.

Cryos ships sperm to more than 65 countries around the world, and donors can score up to $500 for their semen.

I'm a ranga-lover.

I am appalled by the follicle discrimination of potential parents.

People acquiring donated sperm are usually looking to have a baby that looks like it could be their biological child. For most, a red headed child is going to look too strikingly like they did not conceive him/her together.

That must be the reason.

Aesthetically, red hair is very attractive and the rarest hair color.

Personally some of the most beautiful and passionate women I have ever know were red heads. I think anyone who discrimates against someone for any reason needs to take a very serious look at themselves before they look at others.

Perhaps non-redheaded parents having a child via donated sperm do not want to start dealing with awkward questions and whispering going on behind their child's back from the moment he/she is born. Perhaps they want to choose the time when they decide it is right to discuss with their child how he/she came to be, rather than have that time dictated to them prematurely by obvious physical dissimilarities to either of them.

I agree that red haired woman along with blonds are the most beautiful, but I can‘t blame anyone for a personal preference. For example I have never thought of black women as very attractive at least not those with strong African features. However Hispanic women with Indian features are quite attractive. But what is beautify anyway, it is just a matter of opinion. That is why I have never thought beauty contests made much sense; who is to say what is the most beautiful.

But ugly parents would still want a beautiful child, strange isn't it?

My observation has been that all parents believe their baby to be beautiful when it is born, regardless of what other more objective onlookers might think about his/her appearance.
