A California man was charged with having child pornography - after burglars found the images while robbing his house and called police.
The burglars, a 19-year-old and a juvenile, broke into a barn owned by Kraig Stockard, 54, of Delhi, Calif., and stole about 50 CDs they thought were blank, according to a statement from Deputy Tom MacKenzie of the Merced County Sheriff's Department.
When the thieves downloaded the discs, they discovered the child porn, the statement said. They went straight to police, despite knowing that they'd be admitting the burglary.
Police searched Stockard's property and seized three more computers and three laptops, along with several external hard drives, according to CNN. Police said more than 30 computer discs had child pornography on them.
Investigators said Stockard has been downloading child porn since 2004. He was booked for possession of child pornography and posted $25,000 bail.
The two burglary suspects who reported Stockard have not been arrested.

I'm pleased they weren't charged with the burglary.
I am glad they had the balls to admit it in order to get this rock spider charged.

I see no reason to denigrate rock spiders...
And they should charge the fucking thiefs. WTF?

I agree Timster. Although there is grounds for great leniency they still committed a crime for which they should be charged.

1. rock spider 332 up, 31 down
A term used to refer to a paedophile. In common usage within correctional facilities. Derived from the analogy that a paedophile, like a rock spider, is always getting into little cracks. Crass and vulgar, I know, but there it is.
"That fucking rock spider had it coming!" (When used as a defence to a charge of murder, where the deceased was a paedophile.)

Thanks for the clarification Hen. I understand that the imagery is suppose to empathize with people's irrational fear and loathing of spiders. I just think its a bit unfair to the rock spider...
Sean, that was my thinking precisely. I'll give them props for making the hard choice, the right choice, but they still need to take responsibility for their wrong actions as well.

An unemployed social worker has been jailed after the teenage burglars who stole his car found child porn on his laptop and handed it in to police.
The sequence of events which led to the arrest of 58-year-old Keith Smith began when the burglars broke into a house where he was staying, took his car keys and driven off in his vehicle.
When the burglars looked at the computer left in the car, they were so 'spooked' by its contents that they passed it to an adult to give to the police, Manchester Crown Court heard.
The burglary remains unsolved and the youths have never been identified. The 'go-between' was not linked to the crime.
Raids were then carried out at a series of addresses linked to Smith which turned up 15,000 child porn images, as well as a photo of a dog being abused by a woman.
Smith, who is from Levenshulme, a suburb of Manchester, was arrested and later admitted 18 sample charges of downloading indecent and extreme images.
Kate Hammond, prosecuting, told the court that in September 2009 a man had walked into a police station and handed in an external hard drive, two pen drives and five memory cards, which he said had been stolen in a burglary.
