Snot fair.

Post by The Hen »

I ended up with the Gob's man-flu this week.

It was pretty crap. (I guess it always is when a disease crosses gender lines.)

In any case, my head has been full of snot.

Today, I blew my nose, hard.

Snot came out of my eye.

I couldn't believe it, so I blew it again.

Not only snot came out of my eye, but air whistled through it as well.

Not happy. Not happy in the slightest.

:?

Bugger.

I blew me nose again and it came out of my eye.

Should this be of a concern?

I have never had to blow my eyes after I have blown my nose before.

And it is off-putting having air blowing down the outside of my nose. Why does it feel so cold?

Theoretically it seems like everyone should be capable of squirting milk from the eyes. After all, we all have nasolacrimal ducts, canals that allow tears to drain from the eyes to the nasal cavity. That's why people get "runny noses" when they cry. That's also why we should avoid touching our eyes: viruses on fingers can be transported from the eye via the nasolacrimal duct to the nose and throat (check out the very cool Common Cold website for more information). There are two nasolacrimal ducts - one for each eye - and each duct has two tiny entrances called lacrimal puncta. Using a mirror, look very closely at the inner corner of your eye and you'll see that each eyelid (upper and lower) has a lacrimal punctum. Normally fluid goes from the lacrimal puncta to the nose; eye-squirters somehow manage to reverse the flow.

Yeah, soz about that.

I have just never had streams of snot emirate from my eyes before.

Damn shame it isn't blood.

I could pass myself off as a religious curiosity and make a fortune.

It's a shame Jesus wasn't crucified with mucus. I'd bet set for life .... Until this cold passed.

It even possible for YOU to feel that channel in your sinuses. No, not with a an instrument or your finger as shown (Although, I heard of guy who's tongue was so long he could stick it up there.) You may have already felt it on a day, when you were very congested and your nasal passages were completely blocked up. When that occurs and you try to blow past that blockage, you might have felt or heard a tiny blast of air from the corner of your eye.

Well it's Bronchitis and infected sinuses for me.

I am typing this with snot exploding from my face.

I will need to be in at work tomorrow though.

It is an Assembly Sitting Day and we have legislation to get introduced and debated. Should be a riot.
