Speaking of Marmite

In another thread I wrote that I've ordered some Marmite so I can taste it and give my opinion of it.
Sean told me in that other thread that I should remember to only use a 'scrape' of it in order to appreciate it.
So, I went to a Marmite website for
nutrition info.
It says that an adult serving is 4 grams!
Now, if I remember correctly from my cocaine measurement class, that's a half gram over one eighth of an ounce.
That would be about 3 1/2 time this...
So if I eat a scrape at a time, in order to ingest ONE SERVING, I'd need scrape it on about this much bread -
Does that sound about right??

Joe...
You got that info from the Marmite website....
They're in the business of selling Marmite...
If you look on a bottle of Dry Vermouth, it will tell you that the proper way to make a Martini is with one jigger of gin and one jigger of vermouth....

If marmite is as dense as water, 4 grams is less than a teaspoon (which is 5 mL). That doesn't strike me as an abudant amount to be scraping over a slice of toast.
And Jim, suggested serving sizes on food tend to underestimate the amount that is actually used as a serving in RL use. They do so in order to downplay the number of calories, amount of sodium, etc. that are supposedly contained in each "serving".

Try this They say 6g, but I think that's because it's the smallest thing equivalent to a tsp. Sean did say not to eat a spoonful of it, so now I guess you can't eat it

And you are only badmouthing it because Gob, Hen and Sean have expressed a liking for it.
Perhaps they should opine that it would be a bad thing to jump off a cliff into the Grand Canyon, and your obsessive need to be contrary would prove a boon to the entire world...

That was a joke Scooter, you missed the smiley.
For the third time, I said I didn't want to try Marmite because of its levels of free glumatic acid/MSG, that turned me off of Muscle Milk (I used to like, that stuff)
Thanks for supporting my de-tox efforts.

Perhaps when you show the slightest inclination to detoxing from substances that are doing you a lot more harm than the insignificant amounts of MSG you would get from a spoon of marmite...

For the second time; that's what part of de-tox is: improving your diet and nutrients to reduce the cravings.

Sure, you go on telling yourself that MSG is driving you to drink, that is definitely the path to getting yourself off the bottle

Well, that's not all of de-tox no, LOL for the third time; it's part of a change in diet and nutrients.

And revealingly, I'm still seeing nothing demonstating any steps toward detoxing from ethanol...

One thing I've noticed about Marmite...
The subject always has the effect of dividing people into opposing groups.

Around here the subject could be bunny rabbits and it would divide people into opposing groups, so...

Let's see... LoCAtek loves bunny rabbits and hates Marmite.
That's enough to start a flame war for sure.

Joe, part of the division re Marmite has to do with the "cultural divide" thing, (because of the make up of the board it also happens in threads about cricket, or baseball, rugby or football, etc.)
For the most part it's good natured...
However you may have noticed (

) that there's another, uh, "un-goodnatured" dynamic that seems to emerge in these discussions as well....

Exactly, some take it way too seriously.
Posting; it's not a contest.

Joe, the reason I suggested just a scraping was that I didn't want you to get a Marmite high first time out (you know, because of all the fictitious MSG which is like crack cocaine apparently). If you decide that you like the taste then you can experiment with differing levels of Marmite until you achieve your own, uniquely personal, perfect marmite to butter to toast ratio.

I'm looking forward to tasting it.
I'm glad Daisy suggested the type of bread to use and that you both mentioned mixing it with butter.
I think I've got the right idea....
Don't put too much on a cracker, don't smell it, don't look at it, don't think about the ingredients, don't touch it and don't think about it - and just enjoy it.
