-- An Antioch police dog who is no stranger to heroics proved again Saturday that he is aptly named.

Thor, the 11-year-old Belgian Malinois, chased down a suspected car thief shortly after midnight, grabbed hold and maintained his grip as the stolen car rolled over him, police said. His partner, Officer Matt Harger, was also hit by the car, which continued moving after the suspect bailed and tried to run away. Neither Harger nor Thor were seriously injured.

"This is one heck of a resilient dog," said Lt. John Vanderklugt of the pooch, who is quickly gaining mythic status similar to that of his Norse namesake.

Eighteen months ago, Thor took a bullet in the chest and shoulder while pursuing a burglary suspect. Three years before that, he was hit by a car on Highway 4 while chasing another suspect.

This time, Thor dropped the canine hammer on 18-year-old Douglas Martinez, of Antioch, who was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, felony assault on an officer and felony assault on a police dog. He was taken to Sutter Delta Medical Center. A passenger in the stolen car has not been found.

"The courageousness you see is far beyond what you see in humans," Vanderklugt said.

That dog IS having fun; German Belgian Shepards are working dogs who LOVE to work, this one's happier by far than all the family pets who sit home bored.

Besides, all the LE I've ever known who had canine units spoiled them like crazy during off duty hours - they do have fun in their downtime.

I'm not entirely convinced that Thor would have loved being hit by a car or shot... Let the poor bugger keep working, but in a slightly safer line of duty.

I met a "retired" German Shepard, the other day, who was enjoying life being a therapy dog.

 Fuck me pink. Gob and Sean you silly twats. These "working" dogs Are having fun!

They live to please and protect their Masters. Need I draw the obvious political parallel?

What separates these noble beasts is their motivation. Pure and unassuming love for the Pack. And they are Well treated in every sense. In fact, they have better healthcare than a Majority of Americans.

Nothing untoward is happening to these animals.

Very much Unlike their unthinking human counterparts whom have or should have a full command of the facts before stepping off the ledge like so many lemmings. Only to continue to make the same mistakes over and over again by "voting against themselves in a bogus and outdated two party system that only gives them the Illusion of freedom of choice whilst only offering the choice of the lesser of two evils; both of which the outcomes will be the same. *Spit!* The exact definition of insanity when one is expecting a different result.

They, unlike the noble canines are left with no excuse.

And frankly? They deserve what they get. K

Stop looking for problems that don't exist and support a concerted effort to fix what is really wrong.

Us. The working dogs in this story will survive just fine.
