First of all, I've thought long and hard about whether I should post about this and how much should be revealed.

Then given the fact that quad once posted the following on the old CSB, I decided to write a little about it.

this becomes important because of a court ruling yesterday that makes it possible for me to SUE YOU given the string of communications.

Not to mention, since your posts always follow mine which do not address you, and mine only address yours in kind, I am allowed to use protective services and/or TIGTA to get after you as a cyber stalker. Not a particularly good one or effective one, but still.

by forging that "email", some may argue you committed a felony - forging communications in order to influence the action of an employee is a clear violation. Just to be safe, I coped the posting you made and sent it to me at work, and then to TIGTA. From my work computer. where I have a direct desktop link.

Note to Gwen: you are the admin they need to contact for his IP right? I put your email on the report. Can you please confirm via posting when the request comes down?

So, here is the short story...

quad accused me of being a pedophile. quad has often reminded us that his boss is Timothy Geithner, United States Secretary of the Treasury. Further, in order to give credibility to his accusation, he posted at this website that he works in Security and has access to confidential information. quad also wrote more than once that I should be worried, implying that the information he had about me had triggered some type of legal action.

I asked quad to apologize for his lie and to withdraw his accusation.

He refused.

He should not have refused.

I reported him to TIGTA / TREASURY INSPECTOR GENERAL FOR TAX ADMINISTRATION. (that same department that quad claimed he has access to and he said he used to report me as a cyberstalker).

My complaint was taken very seriously.

quad was disciplined at his place of employment for what he did. (rumour has it that as part of his discipline Timothy Geithner made quad sit in a corner with a dunce cap for 30 days)

That's why you don't see quaddy posting here anymore.

Well, in the interest of full disclosure, I helped Joe with this.

I gathered up the quotes that demonstrated what Quad was up to, and I provided some advice to Joe for dealing with the government bureaucracy...

I'm sure that there are going to be folks here who are going to say that this shouldn't have been done...

To those people I would say that this man crossed lines that he should never have crossed in terms of trying to give credibility to his smears and threatening to screw up other peoples lives, under color of his supposed "authority" and access...

He crossed lines that in my 16 year experience with these forums, no other person, no matter how vicious or malevolent, ever crossed...

And he did it repeatedly....

When I was in graduate school and barely knew how to use email/Internet, I listened to a program on NPR about folks who pretended to be entirely other people on Internet forums. It was discussed as a common occurrence and something 'acceptable' in the age of the Internet.

I myself resorted to sock puppetry once for about two weeks (if that?) in my attempt to remain at the old CSB while avoiding the attentions of a veteran poster who had targeted me for trolling. Ultimately I could not keep up the farce, because I was raised better.

What I'm getting at is that in my view, lying online is no different than lying IRL. We agree to respect folks' desire to keep certain IRL identifying information private, to avoid stalking by an IRL nutter posting/reading online - but folks shouldn't be posting untruths about themselves. Nor should they post threats directed at others, especially if those threats are a violation of IRL rules. Respect of free speech shouldn't mandate that we tolerate either.

We are a community and we have the right - the obligation, even - to set standards of discourse that respect all of our community members.

I'm sorry if Quad has lost his job or been disciplined, but he chose his course of behavior - he was not forced into it.

He has apparently been disciplined...(which seems wholly appropriate to me)

I don't think he's been fired, and frankly I hope he wont be..(If for no other reason, if he has been honest here, he has three kids... he didn't talk about them when Kelly and I met him for lunch here back in the late 90's, so if they really exist, they would be young..and they don't deserve to suffer just because their father is a four star asshole)

But that having been said...

If you are going to make the kinds of accusations and threats that Quad did, and further, try to lend credibility to those accusations and threats with the color of authority...

Then it is altogether appropriate that you be held accountable for that.

I hope that Quad has learned a lesson here. He needed to learn it.

I'm sorry that you think I was wrong to react in the way I did after being accused of being a pedophile.

I agree that quad's posts were deranged and stupid, but I can't assume that everyone on the internet would see it that way.

So I decided that it was right to do what I did.

I didn't do it without giving a lot of thought to what the result might be.

Go back and read what he wrote if you're really interested. My guess is that you didn't read most of the things he wrote about me. Otherwise, you would understand my reaction.

There are posters who I generally don't bother to read because what they say is usually trash. It is a practice I recommend.

I am mystified by how many people got into wholly useless exchanges with Quad. He is a pathetic character. Too weak and small to matter.
