I don't have a word processing program on my laptop so I use my Mac whenever I need to create a document. Today I just typed into google 'Free Word Processing' and discovered OpenOffice.
So far it looks every bit as good(?) as Microsoft Word. It's not just a word processing program. It has spreadsheets, drawing, a database feature, a PowerPoint-like app that's called 'Presentation' and more.
And best of all, it's free.
I suppose this isn't news to a lot of you, but I thought I'd pass it along to anyone who may not have known about it and might be interested.
OpenOffice
Re: OpenOffice
There is a huge amount of free software out there.
One of my favourites is Freemake Video converter.
I use it for preparing and burning all my downloaded movies etc.

Re: OpenOffice
Open office is a lot like Microsoft office and will open office documents.
I have been told it is a 2 way street, I thought I mentioned this on a BSG thread...

Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is
Re: OpenOffice
I did a search and found that Daisy & you mentioned Open Office in a thread that dgs49 started (and I made an appearance in the thread also).keld feldspar wrote: I have been told it is a 2 way street, I thought I mentioned this on a BSG thread...
I didn't realize then that you were referring to a free program.
Re: OpenOffice
I found out about Open Office after I had already bought Microsoft Office, (I got it at Comp USA for the student discount price.) but I know several people who are very happy with it.

Re: OpenOffice
The open source stuff works pretty well. If I didn't have to use Microhell* for reasons of professional portability I don't know that I would.
As it stands I'm forced to shell out $300 + for Office Professional every time I buy a new computer.
