Woman Overdoses on Coke
New Zealand woman's Coca-Cola habit cited in death
By NICK PERRY, Associated Press
(04-19) 23:28 PDT WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) --
Experts say a New Zealand woman's 2-gallon-a-day Coca-Cola habit probably contributed to her death, a conclusion that led the soft-drink giant to note that even water can be deadly in excessive amounts.
Natasha Harris, a 30-year-old, stay-at-home mother of eight from Invercargill, died of a heart attack in February 2010. Fairfax Media reported that a pathologist, Dr. Dan Mornin, testified at an inquest Thursday that she probably suffered from hypokalemia, or low potassium, which he thinks was caused by her excessive consumption of Coke and overall poor nutrition.

Re: Woman Overdoses on Coke
I wish the story had indicated her body weight; it would be interesting to know.
According to the story she smoked a pack and a half a day and ate little besides consuming the 8-10 liters of Coke every day. So, she subsisted on mass doses of sugar and chemicals. (Unless it was diet Coke?)
Anyway, it's not the Coke's fault. Too bad she bred 8 times over before removing herself from the gene pool.

I don't know if her "coke addiction" would be genitically pre-disposed to her kids.
Perhaps?
btw: I stopped drinking ANY soft drinks more than a decade ago, I wish I could say the same about my tobacco use.
dammit!

The only fizzy pop we drink in our house is soda water and cordial. My favorite is Lime cordial. Not the nuclear green variety, but the pale version that actually has limes in it.

Bah!

Do you know that Disani (and whatever the brand name pepsi uses) are from the municipal water supply where they are bottled and not from some "mountain spring"?

Indeed. It was my hoot of the year to hear that, not only had trendys been paying over the odds for bottled tap water, but;oldr_n_wsr wrote:Do you know that Disani (and whatever the brand name pepsi uses) are from the municipal water supply where they are bottled and not from some "mountain spring"?
First, Coca-Cola's new brand of "pure" bottled water, Dasani, was revealed earlier this month to be tap water taken from the mains. Then it emerged that what the firm described as its "highly sophisticated purification process", based on Nasa spacecraft technology, was in fact reverse osmosis used in many modest domestic water purification units.
Yesterday, just when executives in charge of a £7m marketing push for the product must have felt it could get no worse, it did precisely that.
The entire UK supply of Dasani was pulled off the shelves because it has been contaminated with bromate, a cancer-causing chemical.
So now the full scale of Coke's PR disaster is clear. It goes something like this: take Thames Water from the tap in your factory in Sidcup, Kent; put it through a purification process, call it "pure" and give it a mark-up from 0.03p to 95p per half litre; in the process, add a batch of calcium chloride, containing bromide, for "taste profile"; then pump ozone through it, oxidising the bromide - which is not a problem - into bromate - which is. Finally, dispatch to the shops bottles of water containing up to twice the legal limit for bromate (10 micrograms per litre).

Buy a PUR or Britta or DuPont filter for your faucet; way cheaper over the long run and less plastic in the waste stream.

I got one of those under the sink systems that leads to its own (small) faucet, $90 for the unit, $20 filter every six months.

Tap water here is fine.

It is here, too.
My daughter and sister both purchase bottled water - they are tools.
The only place I ever lived where the water was undrinkable was San Diego (CO River Water).

Re: Woman Overdoses on Coke
Then perhaps you could fill your empty bottles with your house-purified water and take a couple of botts to work with you?
We use 6 bottles refilled from a static filter jug - keep the filled ones in the 'fridge until needed.
If people want to spend their money on bottles of water that's their prerogative but it's the plastic bottles that are the problem. Water purchasers are polluters of the first er . . . water

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: Woman Overdoses on Coke
I drink from the tap, and have more bottles to carry my own water than any woman needs. But I've been carrying my own water for decades --- I don't drink soda except on rare occasions, I despise drinking milk, juice has too many calories to drink much of, and most employers frown on drinking beer or wine during the work day.

Maybe we should start advocating for a new trend -- drinking during the work day. Think of the piles of litigation which could result . . .Sue U wrote:Whaaaaa? That's just crazytalk.Guinevere wrote:most employers frown on drinking beer or wine during the work day.![]()
