Last night we took The Pud to Disney on Ice up at the Entertainment Centre in Brisvegas.
Tickets were a fair price - its Disney you know its going to be very professional so you don't mind paying.
However me and the handbrake were shocked stunned and fuckin annoyed that
A. We were stung $10 for parking. Theres no where else to park and its in the middle of nowhere. No buses that we know of and the train for three of us would have been no cheaper plus travelling with a fractious 3 year old at 9 O'clock at night would not have been fun for us let alone any other passengers!
B. The price of Disney merchandise which is blatantly flaunted at every angle......most of the stuff could have been picked up in the cheap Crazy Clarks kinda shops for a coupla bucks yet most of it was between $20 amd $30 .
Buzz Lightyear helium balloon $20 (for a fuckin balloon screamed outta every pore)
T shirt $26 (made in China)
Spinny Toy that lights up $25 (made in China)
bucket of popcorn $14
Fairy Floss $14
The merchandising is so in your face and so out of the average families reach once they have paid for tickets. It makes you feel very very guilty if you don't part with at least $50 so your child looks the part! An average family of 4 would have paid $200 for tickets...the parking/train.....food (don't get me started on the crap they serve and the prices they charge there) plus Disney merchandise.....your looking at $500. How many families have that to throw around at the moment!
FFS Disney $2 for a friggin carrier bag!!!
i have been to Disney, disneyland and Eurocrappydisney admittedly its been a few years but I don't remember the merchandise being that expensive. Mebbe it was because I was single with no dependants I had more free cash I don't know, but we were horrified last night by the prices. I reckon Walt Disney would turn in his grave if he could see the amount of disappointed kids that were told no last night as there parents could not afford it!!
Disney...Rip Off!!
Re: Disney...Rip Off!!
I remember Disneyland on television back when old Walt himself would introduce each show.
He started the park because at that time there was no place for a family to go on a Sunday.
I would like to think that he would be equally annoyed at the commercialism that has taken place as well as for the prices making it out of reach for so many families.
Today there are places for a family to go on Sunday, but at those prices, Disney isn’t one of them.

A sufficiently copious dose of bombast drenched in verbose writing is lethal to the truth.

Ah, I love the smell of American cultural imperialism in the morning!

"Disney on Ice" , eh?
There's been a persistent rumour that the old bugger's head is frozen somewhere. :ugeek:

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Nope, that's the new Disney Inc. the only reason they make movies anymore is to merchandise them. You knew "The Lion King' is a rip-off of Osamu Tezuka's 'Kimba the White Lion'?
(If you didn't know click here and scroll down).
Story goes, in early production the Disney studio fully intended it be a re-make and directly referred to their lion cub as 'Kimba'. However, their lawyers mentioned that if they did that, Disney would still have to pay royalties to Tezuka's studio, even though he'd passed away. Deciding money was important than a tribute, they colored their cub brown and re-named him 'Simba'.
They don't give a fuck, they just want buck.
They don't even like to pay their own actors if they can help it;
In the movie 'Enchanted', a new princess 'Giselle' played by Amy Adams, was introduced as an animated to real-life person. When Disney began it's merchandising series 'Princess' with all the royal girls from past movies to present, Giselle (her animated form) was originally included in the line up. However again the lawyers pointed out that if they did that, Disney would have to pay actress Amy Adams for the use of her likeness.
Pay!? No way! and she was cut from the series.
Really, had to dig for this, a rare Disney Princess promo with Giselle included;

(I hate the whole 'Princess Series' idea, it was thought up by a guy.)

D-land back when I was a kid was a very expensive and a very rare treat. And they wold nick you for everything, ears, balloons, food and drink, the works.
When my wife was in Med school in the early 90s we looked into going (since I hadn't been since the 60s) and said: "WOW that's expensive; lets go back to the Huntington Library and Gardens instead. Or maybe the Tar Pits? Lotta fun those La Brea Tar Pits."

Being a parent means the content of your wallet are not your own until your child no longer lives with you.
Even then you may not be responsible for spending all the dollars in there.
