Happy Father's Day!

To all you pappy's out there...

It occurs to me that I may be the only male amongst you geezers here with children still young enough to live at home, (except for Strop, and I don't know if they do "Father's Day" down un'er....)

But I'm gonna tell you what I got anyway....

A new set of Redskins gear....

(My old cap, tee shirt, sweat shirt, sweat pants and shorts were getting a little frayed....well, they are 15 years old....)

A bottle of cologne...(is somebody trying to tell me something?)

A box set of all the episodes of A Bit Of Frye and Laurie (hysterical stuff...another addition to my collection of Brit Coms from the 70's 80's and 90's)

And best of all...

A home made "pop up" card that Tati designed, (When you open it, a drawing of our house "pops up" with pictures of each of us looking out the windows)...

She signed it and also had her brother scribble on the card....

She told me, "I was going put the crayon in his hand and move it around to write his name, but I figured you would figure out that was fake"

I told her that was fine; I love it just the way it is....~sniff~

Tonight we're going out to Alfred's my favorite local steak house....

Except for the no smoking thing, walking into that restaurant is like stepping back in time into a restaurant out of a Mad Men episode....

I love that old fashioned steak house ambiance...

Here's a link:

(It reminds me of a restaurant my parent's used to take me to in DC when I was little named Costins)

In Australia, Fathers' Day is the first Sunday of September. UK Father's Day is the 3rd Sunday of June..

UK Father's Day is the 3rd Sunday of June..
Well that would be today then....

So a Happy Father's Day to you, and to Sean, (and to anyone else I may have omitted with my snarky intro...)...

Since you chaps are from the UK but live in Australia, that makes you entitled to two Father's Days....(small enough compensation... )

When Tati was six or seven, she asked me why there was a "Father's Day" and a "Mother's Day" but no "Kid's Day"....

I gave her the same answer my mother gave me when I asked her the very same question when I was a kid....

Because EVERY DAY is "Kid's Day".... 8-)
January
Oh my....

Well, that should certainly make this coming Christmas Season a joyous time to be around the missus.... :D

Dear ol' Dad's day.

I don't celebrate it any more since mine has passed on.

The Hatch always celebrates Father's Day with her dad, but she never goes and buys him presents. (If she can afford something for him, she buys it, if she can't afford something for him, she makes it.)

Most years the hatch's dad gets some craft product that the HAtch has made, together with either her preparing breakfast, lunch or dinner for him.

:-)

It is nice and cheap that way.

:D

Yes, dear old dad.......

My two daughters are tops!

Delicious Asian cuisine at older daughters and younger daughter brought gifts.

Dear ol' Dad's day.

I don't celebrate it any more since mine has passed on.
I certainly understand that sentiment....

But as I explained to my sister when she insisted we had become "orphans" after our parents died back-to-back in 1996 and 1997...(We were not "orphans"...we were the grown children of adults who had passed away...it was the natural order of things...but I have to say it was difficult to come to grips with the idea of being the "eldest" member of the family..that was always our father's role; I'll never be able to fill it properly....)

But my sister has a beautiful daughter, (my niece) and I have two beautiful children...(her niece and nephew)

It's time to go forward, not back...if our parents were here, that's what they'd want us to do.

I got short-changed in the father department, so Father's Day has not been a very special occasion for me for many years now.

However, yesterday I spent most of Father's Day with my new beau and his two lovely young children. They are 3 (girl) & 6 (boy), and together we attended a showing of Toy Story 3 (great fun!) and then got food from a local drive-in, ate at the park and played on the jungle gym together. This was followed up by some SpongeBob Squarepants back at the ranch, and shared bedtime storytelling.

Both kids made very nice homemade cards for their dad.

Best Father's Day I have enjoyed in a long time, spent with one of the best fathers I've had the pleasure of knowing.

Belated well wishes to all you Plan B dads! :D

Hen--i agree with Jim, this is the first Father's Day I've had without my dad (who died in February) and wile it caused me to reminisce a bit, it also caused me to treasure thetime I have with my girls. In some ways it made this Father's Day even more special. Life goes on, but we never forget, and we are richer for the experiences we have.
