Random Thoughts on Clemens' Acquittal

(1) Jury nullification. This was a stupid case that should never have been brought. The jury figuratively poked its finger in the eye of the United States Justice Department. Good for them.
(2) Roger's BODY calls him a liar. An adult man over 25 years old CANNOT create the gains in mass that he exhibited simply through hard work and diet. Can't be done. The ONLY way is through either HGH injections, Steroids, or a combination of the two.
(3) Neither of the main accusers had any reason to lie. I realize the trainer is or was a dirtbag, and he comes across as a dirtbag in person, but I simply don't buy the idea that he somehow saved himself from death in prison by turning state's evidence against Roger. And Pettit got it right the first time, and was manipulated by Roger's attorney into stating he might have been mistaken. Bullshit.
(4) The people who are closest to the ground on this - the baseball writers who vote for HOF induction - have no doubt about whether Roger was a cheater. Despite what may be the best credentials of any pitcher ever to come up for consideration (historical factors considered), he will not be elected this year, or in the foreseeable future.
(5) There were a lot of BB players who got big on steroids, but it was not a large percentage of the total MLB rosters. Baseball tradition says that muscularity works against quickness and coordination, and most players would be afraid to take it to the level that Bonds and Clemens did, for fear of eroding their skills.
(6) I personally don't blame Clemens for cheating like this. He saw a way to prolong his career with minimal chance of detection, and he coupled a bit of substance abuse with a lot of hard work. And even with an un-natural 95mph fastball, he still had to know how to pitch and have the other tools to be successful. The minor leagues are filled with nobodies who can throw the ball 95 miles an hour, but can't PITCH. Good for him.
