The Danger of Science Denialism

Post by rubato »

If you've never encountered the "TED talks" videos then this is a good time to start.

No, I'm not trying to be nice. I'm trying to promote rational thinking instead.

I agree with Michael Specter, I would much more want to go forward in time and see how all of the threads of history which are being woven today will come together. I certainly agree with him that one of our greatest problems is 'science denialism' either in the form of Jenny McCarthy lying about vaccines and autism, or the Republican Party (and their media outlets like Murdoch's empire) lying about climate change, or hysterical illiterates lying about GMOs, or others lying about our obesity/diabetes epidemic.

I am sorry that LJ and Bosco/Dales cannot be bothered to see something worthwhile and just post their usual crap instead.

Time will pass and the question of whether it is to a future of progress or decay will depend on how many people engage with the problems and see them through or are as ignorant and useless as these two.

The future belongs to people who find solutions. Who know that we can.

Let's hear it for people who are not perennial smartass morons.

People who think that serious problems ought to be treated seriously and not with glib half-witticisms.

You have always been something of a shitheel Dales/Bosco. No wonder your life, other than the biological issue of some involuntary ejaculations, is so unimportant.

You can try to drag people down to your and LJs level of mental and emotional infancy, but you cannot succeed.

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Are you capable of responding in a way which is not hate-infused?

Would someone impartial be able to tell this from your works?

I'm glad I'm not you. And I always will be so. You are a nasty little bit of pus.

I'm not making light of the many problems confronting humankind, only the poster who posted.

No one really cares for your sneering and condescending manner here, rube.

Lighten up a little and enjoy the give and take of a BBS forum such as this.

Life is far too short to walk around with a stick shoved up one's anus.

Not if that's the only way one knows how to walk around....

Rube, do you really want to know why you are the object of such widespread scorn and derision?

(I'm sure he must know, but just for sake of argument, let's pretend he doesn't)

It's the asshole plus ignoramus thing...

I've told you before rube, that if you wanted any sort of treatment other than scorn and ridicule, that was a really bad combo to go with......

If you were just an ignoramus, nobody would go at you....

In fact I suspect most people here, (I certainly would) would just try to patiently educate you....I don't think there's anyone here who would attack someone just for being intellectually weak, or not as knowledgeable as most of us (I certainly wouldn't; that would constitute being a bully just to be a bully; very unattractive.)

If on the other hand, you were a complete asshole but actually knew what you were talking about....

Well I (and again I suspect others) would like to smack you for being an asshole, but we wouldn't have many opportunities to put you in your place; it would be, "damn it, he's an asshole, and deserves to get his comeuppance, but you have to admit he knows what he's talking about"....

Rube, you have managed to carve out for yourself the worst of all possible worlds....

Ignoramus, plus asshole....

A man who's behavior is so uniformly appalling (one of my recent favorite moves of yours was when you decided to insult, out of the blue, every single person participating in a very thoughtful discussion about evolution in the Religion forum.... I guess it was just too complicated for you to follow, so you decided to fling your feces) that he cries out for getting smacked down, and who at the same time, is so pig ignorant that he produces and endless flow of opportunities to give him the smack downs he has so richly earned....

Being both a complete know nothing, and an insufferable prick, was a terrible combination to go with rube; (unless, as I've pointed out, your objective was to make yourself an object of scorn and ridicule)...

You really should pick one or the other....

The danger of science denialism is one of the worst risks we face as a species.

Morons like the three of you, make it much worse.

Your need for hatred is a weakness. You are ineffective.

Actually rube, I don't have a "need for hatred"....

To be honest, I have a "need" for comedy.....

And I'm really happy you're here to supply it.... :ok

Jim, as you so acurately observed several days ago, rube might not have a sense of humor but the poor slob sure is funny.

Oh yeah, I'm certain neither Gob, LJ, or myself are "denying science" (as you mistakenly believe).

Just because one does not genuflect at the altar of materialism (as you do, rubbix) does not dismiss one from assigning a proper place to "science" in one's priorities in life. There are more importatnt pursuits in life than that of the black and white materialist. Like I stated before, you have a very difficult time with subtle humor and ambiguity. Your mental predisposition no doubt plays a large part in this.

How you seem to have a complete lack of self-realization concerning this is cause for unending curiousity on my part. Do you actually engage others in ftf conversations or are you so caught up in your own shit, that nothing else matters? Is it so important to you to be "right" all the time? If others do not share your worldview, are they dismissed as unworthy or not to be taken seriously?

You must be one lonely SOB there, rubbix....sad,really.

Yeah, when it comes to being funny, rube is a natural...

It comes effortlessly to him.... 8-)

BTW, I think I finally managed to find that forum where rube's intellect is truly appreciated, and he's "popular":

It's:
