So My Daughter's Going On A Retreat This Weekend...

It's something that's planned for the 8th graders at her school...It's something that's well organized in Redwood Shores Camp Grounds....
It's coming up this Friday....
"Okay, do you have all your clothes for the weekend?"
"Change of clothes for two days, tooth brush, tooth paste, deodorant... underwear... you know, this is the first time you've ever gone anywhere with out us before..."
"I'll be fine..."
"Well, here's some cash (four 20s) just in case of an emergency (they won't let them take their cell phones), or you have to buy something from the trading post or vending machine... "
Good Lord, if
this is the way I respond to a well organized two day retreat set up by her school, she damn well better never join the army...
Or her brother either...

I was talking to a friend of mine about this, and she told me, "For somebody who's supposed to be an Anglo-Saxon man, you sound a lot like a Jewish mother"...

My daughters went to church camp (Sierra Nevadas) starting age 10. This was before cell phones and giving either of them $80 would've seemed like I or my ex were on drugs.
They both had a blast.
I'm sure your daughter will be fine in the wilds of Redwood Shores (Oracle Corp. is within shouting distance).

In 7th grade my daughter went to a camp for a weekend in Frost Valley NY. I got elected to be a chaperone (sp?). She was not in any of the groups I was put in charge in but I had a great time (other than the food). She had a great time too.
LordJim
She's only taking a small journey on to the stick outside the nest. Short but nessesary.
Just wait, it gets better.

I'll tell you something else kind of funny...
I thought I'd give her some change, just in case she needed to use a pay phone...
And then it occurred to me...
She's never
dealt with a pay phone....
She wouldn't know what to do it with if she saw one....
So tomorrow I'm going drive her over to a local shopping center where they still have a pay phone, (I doubt it works) and familiarize her with what to do should she happen to encounter one, and need to use it...
I'm going to feel almost as archaic as the day I unpacked my music collection and showed her what an "album" was....

I would guess that the place has "land line" phones in the offices and I hope she knows what they are.
and knows that you can't just walk anywhere while talking on them as they have that nasty cord attached to them. Remind her that the cord is not just there to prevent theft of the phone

Expectations, fortunately, you will never have the pleasure of experiencing, retard.
Jim, it's a whole world of pain watching them spread their wings...

Are you capable of responding in a way which is not hate-infused?
Would someone impartial be able to tell this from your works?
I'm glad I'm not you. And I always will be so. You are a nasty little bit of pus.

I feel your pain Jim.
I also found it difficult when the Hatch was off on her first trip sans me. It is all good though. She'll survive. You'll survive and it is all part of your journey together ... although seemingly apart for two days.

Actually no. I never have difficulties with mirrors. A mirror of me is very pleasant.
Now you have a nice day/night.

Rube to respond to that, I don't expect her to spend 80 dollars....(and she knows that) the idea is, okay lets put two twentys in the wallet, one in a pocket in the back pack and another one in a pocket in the suitcase...
Just to be on the safe side....I've told her I don't expect her to spend half that much....in fact being the kind of kid she is, she initially told me, "Daddy, I don't need that much money"...(until I explained to her why I wanted her to have it, and that it would make
me feel better if she did.)
