I've never seen it written, so the spellings are just guesses.

"ur" as in sure

"yat" as in yacht but more like eeyacht

"ge" as in the first part of guess

"nak" like as in knock but with the a as in father

"ta" kind of like a schwa, kind of like the e in set, kind of like the a in father, kind of like the u in push -- trying to describe the vowel sound has me befuddled

"ji" as in gee whiz

I hear it in my head a lot, but I haven't the faintest idea what (if anything) it means, and other people I've talked to don't either. I will appreciate any serious suggestions.

It has some "sound" affinities with Berber perhaps?

Andrew, hearing it in your head as in "you've never actually heard it anywhere else"?

Maybe it is an example of speaking in tongues which some people believe is genuine? I know some pentecostals who'd probably interpret it for you! (Actually I don't know any pentecostals).

Ganashakti is a left wing (read Communist ?) periodical in the Bengal region.

The Islamists (?) in this region appear to be Persian in origin.

It sounds very Hindi to me, and synchronistically, there is an Asian/East Indian Moon Festival going on right now.



Urja Vrata also spelled Jurja Vrata, when anglicized, is some type of ceremony conducted during the festival, could part of what you hear be 'Urja'? I included a link to an audio recording of the word.

The second may have something to do with Ganesha? Do you know any Hindi speakers, who might help?
