Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career

You may have heard on the news about Mel Gibson's complete meltdown maniacal rant's on the phone to his ex girlfriend and mother of his eight month old daughter, Oksana Grigorieva...

I had heard about it, but I just listened to the tapes of the two "conversations" and they left me....

Completely disgusted and pretty much speechless...

No summary can really do it justice. There's no way he can recover from this, (both his agent and his publicist have quit) and he'll be damn lucky if he stays out of jail...(which is where he really belongs...either that or a mental hospital)

There are two tapes. The first is distinguished by it's incredible racism, vulgarity and verbal abuse. (It's about six minutes long.):

The second one, unbelievably, is even worse. (And if you listen to first one, you'll have a hard time believing there could be something worse, but it is)

It's distinguished by more non-stop vulgarity and verbal abuse, along with an admission to hitting her and breaking her teeth while she was holding their baby, (he says she deserved it) and also two death threats.

But the most chilling part, even worse than what he says, is the way he says it...he screams like a homicidal maniac, and pants like a wild animal. (I got the impression he might have made this call after an extensive meth binge.)

That tape is about eight minutes long, here's the link:

And this takes place in the context of this:
Mel Gibson's lawyer will meet with Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigators next week, RadarOnlne.com has learned exclusively.

The actor is being investigated on domestic violence charges. Oksana Grigorieva, his former girlfriend and the mother of their eight-month-old daughter Lucia, filed a complaint with law enforcement on July 5.

"The plan is for Mel's lawyer to meet with investigators from the Sheriff's department next week," a source close to the case told RadarOnline.com exclusively. "It won't be happening this week because of scheduling issues."

Mel has not been interviewed by law enforcement.

"There is a lot more to this investigation that Mel's lawyer will be giving to law enforcement," the source said, refusing to elaborate on the details but hinting the information could help the embattled star.

A law enforcement source told RadarOnline.com: "This investigation is proceeding very quickly. It could be handed over to the D.A.'s office by the end of the month."

It will ultimately be up to the D.A. To determine if there is enough evidence to charge Mel with a crime.

Oksana has told sources that Mel punched out her front teeth and threatened to kill her several times. She recorded him on the phone because she was afraid for her life, she told one source.

That last sentence is entirely believable.

It has to be said that she made these tapes without Gibson's knowledge, which under California law makes them inadmissible in court. (An idiotic law in my opinion; especially when applied to domestic abuse cases. So long as the tape is examined thoroughly and found not to have been doctored, it should be admitted)

This man is very very sick, and very very dangerous. He should not be on the streets.

Gibson isn't my favorite actor, but there are some movies of his I've enjoyed...

But after listening to those tapes, I was so thoroughly disgusted, I can't imagine ever watching another one of his movies, even on television.

I can't listen to the tapes, as I'm at work, but the written excerpts are horrible. It sounds as if Mel's cheese has slid right off the cracker and been eaten by a rabid mouse.

Isn't he affiliated with a very conservative traditional Roman Catholic group?

Yes he is, Kristina, but believe me, there's nothing "Christian" (conservative or otherwise) in the content on these tapes.

In thinking about it, it occurs to me that Gibson as an actor, has had off the hook, crazy, rug chewing displays as a specialty of his...he's done those kinds of scenes in a number of his films, (The Lethal Weapon flics and Bounty come to mind off the top of my head...I believe there are others)

And it may be the case that he was acting more crazy than he actually is in order to frighten and intimidate his ex girlfriend. He has the professional skills to do that, if he chose.

But even if that's the case, he's still one very sick puppy to do a thing like that.

Ok, I am the odd one out here who is willing to give him the benefit of a doubt. I don't necessarily like him, he is too religious for me but I listened to this on a Nancy Grace clip and my first thought was that some it sounded "doctored". I may be wrong but I am waiting to see how this develops before I pass judgment and call for his head in a basket.

BTW, anyone remember when Sean Connery said it was ok to slap a woman around if she needed it?

@W, I initially saw what I think is the Nancy Grace clip you're referring to on You Tube...

And that definitely was edited....

That's why I sought out the original source....

The full tapes at links I put in the OP really don't sound edited to me; they flow very naturally.

I listened to what you posted Jim. She sounds like she is reading from a script with very bad acting. For all we know the voice on the other end is an impression of Gibson.

Time will tell.

I admit she didn't exactly sound "natural"...she really sounded overly calm, given the nature of the conversation...

But I think the reason for that, is that she ( unlike Gibson) knew the conversation was being recorded, knew that it would become public, and knew that it could become part of a legal case (or possibly a custody battle)...

Therefore she was consciously comporting herself in a way that would make it impossible for anyone to say this was some sort of a "two way street"...(towards the end of the second tape, she almost starts to lose some of that composure, and catches herself)

As for the possibility that it wasn't Gibson, I think that's very remote...

First of all I doubt that William Morris would have dropped him if he was telling them that it was a hoax. And second, (and even more indicative) as clearly damaging as this is, by now, (the first tape came out three days ago) surely Gibson, or his attorney, or some spokesperson for him, would have come forward to publicly claim that this was a hoax...

The other incidents in the not too distant past, with Mel "Mad Max" Gibson going totally apeshit "Fucking Jews. The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world. Are you a Jew?" etc in public, will also add to the belief that he's lost it big time

Mel Blanc, Mel Ott, and Mel Torme would be even more newsworthy....

Since they're all dead...
