PTSD.
What a country.
What a tort system.
First, let's kill all the lawyers.

Wow Dave...
What
you find outrageous here is the idea that a 10 year old boy hit with 50,000 volts of electricity by an authority figure for no reason claims to be traumatized by the attack?
Words fail me....
Would you feel the same way if the cop had used a billy club?
Here's what
I find outrageous about this:
Webb was suspended for three days without pay
I am certainly no cop basher, but what
the hell kind of "punishment" is that for a police officer who uses a serious weapon entrusted to him for use to protect himself and the community, on a completely innocent 10 year old child? As though he thought it was some sort of "game"?
Why isn't this guy on indefinite suspension without pay, pending a full investigation with an eye towards permanent dismissal and criminal charges? Given what he did, anything less than that is absurd.
A person like this has absolutely no business whatsoever serving on a police force.
A civil action is the very least of what this freak ought to be facing.

That is an appalling story and a shocking abuse of authority.
That kid may not have survived to be the shattered broken child he has become. This innocent prank by the officer could have resulted in a death.
I hope the lawsuit is successful for him.

Personally,I don't see anything "innocent" about it....(after all this wasn't the act of a person who picks up a taser and fires it at someone with no understanding of the affect...this is someone who was presumably fully trained in what the taser would do..)
I see it as the act of either a clinical sadist, or a person with severe arrested development issues...
Either way, not someone who has any business wearing a badge.

... or an unintended triggering of the device. But granted, pointing the thing at the kid (even in jest) is perhaps indicative of arrested development). Your conclusion is reasonable.

On a purely statistical basis are there more useless or malign cops or useless or malign lawyers?
Some of my best friends have been officers ... and if you want someone to watch your back in a bad situation a lawyer is at the BOTTOM of the list, cops are near the top.

I wonder if his taser was the same as the one in the pic. You know, the one with the safety switch...
Aren't police officers trained to aim their weapons only if they are prepared to use them?
This twat needs to be thrown off the force immediately and tasered once a day, every day for the foreseeable future by the kid's parents.

I'd let the kid have a go....
This guy's defense appears to be, "I didn't do it on purpose; I'm just reckless, irresponsible and incompetent"...
Well okay pal, even if we accept that, you need another profession....
Preferably one that
doesn't involve the right to shoot people under color of authority...

Dale, I have to disagree with what I take to be the sentiment behind that...
I firmly believe that the vast majority of police officers are hard working honorable folks who perform a very difficult, dangerous and largely thankless job in a very professional and courageous way...
And then there are the ones like
this ying yang....

Now, now Jim.
I'm really a law 'n order guy at heart but shooting 10 year olds with a TASER goes beyond even the most ardent "John Law" types.
Hell, even Joe Friday would be appalled at the stupidity of this so-called LEO.
All it takes is one bad apple to ruin the entire barrel.
By and large most cops ARE decent people.
My dark humour doesn't translate so well via the printed word at times.

As I think you can see from my posts on this Dale, I completely agree about this guy...
I just thought that maybe you were making some comment about cops in general; if I was mistaken in that, I apologize.

What everyone seems to be overlooking is that the kid was a brat and deserved to be tased.
Policeman are trained to recognize future criminals and use all means available to them to prevent their criminal development.
You have to look at the bigger picture to understand what happened in this particular situation.
The cop risked his career to prevent this unstable child from becoming a potential mass murderer.
His work will forever go unrewarded and misunderstood.

Forget a tazer...I would be happy to lend them something with a bit more kick. Like, say, my 220V Hobart
welder.
