If You're A Fan Of Inspector Morse, or Midsomer Murders....

You'll love Inspector George Gently....

Set in 1964, right on the cusp of Britain's "Swingin' 60's", it really captures the feel of the time; the cars, the clothes; right down to the fact that practically everyone is smoking cigarettes...

George Gently is no "Swingin' 60's" type...(though he has a mop head younger assistant)...

The two episodes we've seen so far, one involved dealing with "Special Branch" and supposed IRA activities, and the other with English-Arab relations, have been very well written and cast, with a lot excellent plot twists...

I highly recommend it... :ok

Well, we've been catching it on KQED Plus...(It used to be KTEH)

Check your local PBS listings... 8-)

Is this going to cost as much as it did when you suggested I watch House?

Well, there's always Amazon...

Though that's a bit pricey....

(You can get the first series and then decide if you want to spring for the rest...)

Thanks for the tip. Now that we have DSTV we stand a chance of seeing a decent mystery or two. "Scott and Bailey" is our current best option.

So the short answer is yes, it is going to cost me like House did.

I love George Gently.

Also had a crush on Martin Shaw for as long as I can remember ;)

OMFG!!

Daisy, I was wondering where I knew that old duffer from! Martin, you've aged mate.

PS. Jim, that kid's hair is far too long to be authentic.

Well, here the actor is, Lee Ingleby, with his hair cut a bit shorter:

But he really does have the hair to do that sort of thick, "mop head" early Beatles look, it's not a wig...

Is it just me, or does he look like the perfect pick for the starring role in The Mick Jagger Story....

I'm sorry, I'm getting a little slow in my old age....

Were you implying with that line that you would "do" (wink, wink, nudge, nudge know what I mean) that elderly (though talented) actor?

They've produced four more Gently's...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1430509/epi ... p_ep_sn_nx

(Geesus, a show that's been on the air for eight years with only 19 episodes to show for it...that's barely one season... 8-) )

Quality not quantity, darling ;)

Blue for Bluebird was my favourite episode of this run.
