Soft united gits.

Post by Gob »

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson fumed that Swansea City defender Ashley Williams could have killed Robin van Persie during his side's 1-1 Premier League draw at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.

The Wales centre-back struck the prone van Persie in the back of the head with the ball during the second half of the match, sparking a furious reaction from the Dutchman that culminated in bookings for both players.

Swansea top scorer Michu had earlier cancelled out Patrice Evra's opener for United to prevent Ferguson's men from restoring their six-point advantage over second-placed Manchester City at the Premier League summit.

"Robin van Persie is lucky to be alive," said Ferguson.

"It was a disgraceful act from their player today and he should be banned by the FA (Football Association). Robin could have had a broken neck.

"It was one of the most dangerous things I've seen on a football pitch in many, many years. It was absolutely deliberate, and right in front of the referee."

Yeah! Good result though for the Swans. And for everyone else except Fergie's Fookers

It wasn't a bad result. Swansea have already turned over a few good teams this season. Four points clear going into Xmas? I'll take that!

I bet you would too Meade...

Baloney! We want fourth place and will lose as many games as it takes to get it!

3rd rate northern England football team who've won everything in sight for the past twenty years - and people say there are no miracles. . . tcha!

Just look at their bare escape yesterday against Newcastle when they buried a jammy fourth goal as the game should have ended and won 4-3 against mediocre opposition.

Meanwhile in real news, AVB was stunned that his team beat Aston Vanilla 0-4 as he had not realised Spurs are allowed to score more than 0 goals (or perhaps 1) AND not let the opposition score 1 or 2 just to be fair. Heads will roll if the players continue this tendency to ignore the Chelsea-reject's game plan.

Oh dear Meade... I didn't realise that such bitterness and envy were acceptable Christian traits... ;)

Yes oldr, United are indeed a mediocre side... As 12 English championships, 2 European championships and 1 world championship (not to mention about a dozen other various trophies) in the last couple of decades will testify.

Meade, however, prefers to discuss the ridiculously named, perennial also-rans and next year's relegation fodder (once their only half decent player ups and leaves) Tottenham Hotspur... who have the honour of being one of United's feeder clubs.

I was comparing to FC Barcelona (21 La Liga championships; 15 Euro trophies; 2 World) and Real Madrid (32 La Liga; 14 Euros; 3 World) which would be 1st rate and 2nd rat respectively (based on only the last 20 years; otherwise 2nd and 1st respectively). And I did credit that MU have "won everything in sight" for the past 20 years, which was magnanimous of me I think.

And er. . . well that's all. Gareth Bale is not "half-decent" - he's brilliant. Or did you mean our Frog goalie?

Well I must admit, 32 championships in the past 20 years is fairly impressive... ;)

What a terrible waste of brain cells to have committed that bit of information to memory....

That grey matter would have been better spent storing all the lyrics to the show theme for My Mother The Car....

Collective term for 'Gentlemen', oldr.

er Sean . . . remedial reading for you.... clarity of writing lessons for me. Over their entire existence, Real Madrid would be 1 vs Barca at 2 using the overall statistics given. But for the last 20 years Barca have been the better side - hence #1.

MFUFC would be third in Spain. Possibly fourth.

Hey - do you know how Tottenham fans avoid the rush to get out of the stadium?

They leave when the game ends

They'd be third in Scotland too... Or any other country where trophies are, in the main, divvied up between two sides. Of course if we're comparing overall trophies won you'll find united a lot closer to them...

I did understand your post, I just took the opportunity to take advantage of your slight lapse in clarity to be a tad facetious. :)

Ah I thought that was one of the two possibilities . . . We're all just jealous of Man Utd for their history and consistency. I remember as a bairn the '58 crash and how shocking that was. Roger Byrne - great loss to England - Danny Blanchflower's brother who survived but had to give up the game. In later years it was a treat to go to the Lane and watch Charlton, Law, Best, Stepney (second only to Pat Jennings), Kidd, Nobby Stiles - those were the days.

Back to your egg-chasing with you! You know not of what you speak! :fu

The Leeds team of the Best, Law & Charlton (the original Englishman, Irishman and Scotsman) era were not fit to lace Besty's drinks! They were just a bunch of thugs who seemed to like being runners-up more than they liked winning things...

Sorry Sean - I have to disagree just a little. Leeds were better in those days. These days they are just rubbish, what with the likes of Hull beating them. But back in those days - well, they could have beaten Hull. Three of out of five times probably.

Norman "Bites Yer Legs" Hunter, Gary Sprake, Joe(?) Jordan, Terry Yorath, Mick Jones, Paul Madeley, Alan Clarke, Jack Charlton, Peter Lorimer, Johnny Giles, Billy Bremner.............. I had to look up last names for some but all of the first names came back as if it were yesterday.

You know the old joke right? After a string of bad results Gary Sprake was despondent so he went down to Leeds High Street and threw himself in front of a Number 27 'bus. He wasn't hurt though. The 'bus went under him*.

Meade

*yes OK it was really a Peter Bonetti joke

It's like the apocryphal tale of Dixie Dean passing the Liverpool keeper in the street one day. Dean nodded to him and the keeper dived into the gutter.

I read Gob's post to mean that the Leeds side of the time were better than the United side of the time. This of course is absolute bollocks. As far as that Leeds side being better than the Leeds side of today goes... I can only agree. It's like comparing today's Spurs with Ossie and Ricky's Tottingham... :)
