Still alive...

Post by Sean »

I'm just checking in because I know you lot will be frantic with worry... :p

We were hit pretty hard by a cyclone over the weekend and just about managed to keep our heads above water! We're stranded on the mountain but hopefully will be able to reach civilisation in a day or too. Power, phones, etc are still out and will be for a while. I've texted Aardy to make sure he's okay and am waiting for a reply.

Glad you're okay, hang in there and let us all know if you need anything.

No phones mate!

I've walked to the local shop just to get mobile reception. I'm off home now so will be incommunicado once again... :)

I know there's absolutely nothing I can do now, but I'm willing to help in any way possible.

Maybe I could Fedex some emergency Marmite?

:D

But I am serious about helping.....

Thanks guys, all your very kind offers are much appreciated. We're much better off than some... Our next door neighbour had his house completely trashed by a falling tree! This is why I will not have tall trees within falling distance of our house... I had them all cut down and bollocks to the greenies!

Our road off the mountain is open now but there is a lot less of it... Half of the road has just slipped down the mountain in places but they are just about passable with care.

Oh and just for you TPFKA@W, it's sunny and back up to 32c now!

Hurricane = Typhoon = Cyclone

Not exactly identical but in usage almost so.

Helps people looking for a rhyme.

Glad the destructive part is over. Hope things go back together with little pain.

Thanks for the MSG yesterday Sean We are fine here.
Only a trickle of water in the house and the sheds so no dramma .
The farm where I work is a different matter with an estermated 5 tones of silt over the field and much the same in the settelig tanks. Gatton has 4 of the main bridges out so getting around is a problem.

On the up side my water tanks are full (2X 10,000gallens) the dams are full to the brim (in 8 hours) and the cats here have been feasting on all the fish washed out of the dam up the hill.
To anyone else who is enjoying Oswald good luck and stay safe and dry.

I've just heard a rumour that we may get power back sometime in the next 48 hours. Happy days!

Glad everyone survived and is coping with whatever. 48 more hours until power, is pretty good. We still ahve people without power here some 3 months after sandy. But no matter, congress just passed $50billion in money to come our way. Should be here any day year now.

We have high winds last night and today along with about an inch of rain last night. People without power, again, and more than a few roads closed due to flooding. Could be worse.

Because the comment he responded too wasn't also grinding an ideological ax?

Sean -- glad you're OK -- hope power comes back shortly.

After last night's storm, my sister is yet again without power herself. Winds were gusting at over 60 MPH and the pressure dropped to 28.95 -- which is pretty damn low --- tropical storm conditions with no spinning and in the deep winter. Yes, the weather is freaking weird, and very brutal.
